Post 'em here!
I'll start. I'm bringing back the DX700 dual out of retirement.
No monster, but it used to do 450 a day in Rosetta and with this quorum and 2 WU at a time, it just may be worthwhile..
ok, down to 99 and the clocks ticking.
99 more by 9:40PM EST on October 20th..
Good luck!:toast:

It'll definitely be worthwhile.

6600 ES should be up by tomorrow, assuming I find limit on speed; real nice chip.

Hope to have an X2 up as well. Building a rig for my oldest son with a64 out of my wc rig on the condition that he keep it crunching. Replacing that CPU with the X2.

Should finally get wife's old athlon up as well.

So, MM, we're up to 4.

when alienware gets around to shipping my laptop that'll be one new core. Opteron 165 (2.6+) is sitting unused at the moment due to lack of network configuration. Newcastle 2800+ (2.5+) is idle, missing parts. Celeron 356 (3.8+) is idle, missing parts. 2500+ (2.6+) Mobile is idle, need to repair several motherboards, missing parts. Dual P3 933 is idle, not on location.

Got an XP1700+ still on rosetta.. woops.

Well, I stopped at Fry's on the way home from work, and picked up a "loaner", a P5B Dlx and E6700. Gonna slap it together tonight.

Was going to anyway, but this fits right in with the theme of the 100 within 14 days... Of course, I'll have to bring it back in 15 days, but am hoping to have picked up a replacement ( permanent type ) for it by then.

Steve: Bring what you can. Seems a shame to see that Opty 165 sit idle.
What do you need to get it running? Network configuration? Explain? Maybe I have something you can use? nic card?

Hopefully my ram gets here tomorrow(the egg's policy says no saturday delivery, but UPS says delivery tomorrow). So my new 6600 should be up tomorrow night. I should be able to get over to my buddies house and get his opty 170 switched over from rosetta to wcg(finally). My brother's a64 3000 is aching to crunch for us i think. So that's 5 new cores, plus the extra core I put on on Wednesday(single to dual swap) for 6 new ones this week

I gathered as much, but what do they do that my current setup cannot? Sharing the dial-up to the router from the laptop just seems to be a no-no.

I've got a P1 or P2 system that I could toss a *nix setup on and plug it into the uplink port on the router.. maybe it will work then?

I've been trying to get my ASRock C2D cruncher running, but I have to RMA the board, so that's on hiatis. And I'm not sure if I'll realistically be able to add anymore in the room I'm using for them, because I must have flipped the breaker tonight, because all the power to the basement shut off, so my dad flipped that breaker back and I've got two of them running again (Big and Original). I'll try to get Little moved up to my room and see if the wireless reaches that far.

if he goes 24/7, he will probably overtake my p4... he does seem to manage them a good hour faster, hehe.

Decided to let 6600es crunch through the night as a stability test. Started at midnight and has already done 12 cancer wu's. So, far no errors and 3 valids. Chip is at 3.78/420 on p5b using TTBT at 1.475 vcore. Chip has more in it, but TTBT doesn't; crunching at 65c coretemp in a cool room.

try this: grab one of those 20" window fans that every house has.
Place it beside the PC with the side panel off blowing in on low.
Quiet and incredibly effective..try it for an hour and check your temps.
I think you'll be amazed at the drop in temps and those fans use almost nothing for elec.

I'm getting 70c in Coretemp at 1.6625v on water with my 6600es. I've almost got it up to 3.5ghz, which is alot better than I ever thought I would get out this chip. Maybe I'll have to lap the IHS, just to make sure it's making good contact all over.

rob725
10-07-2006, 09:58 AM
I was about to lap the 6600 es, but checked it with a razor blade and noticed it was a little convex instead of concave, with highest part being where the chip is, so it makes great contact. I'm pretty sure I can push it to 4ghz on air, but it's by far the best chip I've ever had and I hope to put it under phase soon, so I'm babying it a little. My other c2ds are running just under 50 when crunching faah and right at or a little over 50 for hdc wu's.

So, I think I'll just let it crunch today; maybe I'll summon up the courage to push it a little tommorrow.

my kent was convex, i lapped it and got about 7c off of it at load.

convex is not good either. you want it flat.

Now we're cooking!:toast:
We add another 100 machines in 14 days thats 200,000-300,000 points a day more! That could put us at close to 1.5 mil a day..
Here's the hard part: To catch easy news in any sort of reasonable time we need to get to close to 5 mil a day!
That's the tough part. BUT This is something we can pick at and work on.
Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is catching these guys.
Going to be a long battle, but well worth doing.
These guys that run WCG will be scratching their heads wondering where the firepower is coming from!:D
To me the funny thing will be when we pass IBM's main plant with 2400 machines on this and WCG is IBM's pet project..They wrote it!:p:

No, we don't have 2400 machines...yet!;) Not even close to that.
BUT what we do have is machines that are vastly superior to what IBM has!
THAT is what I find so funny! IBM..Big Blue..Will be toppled by a group that is mostly college aged students, a few old farts, some high school guys and a few sharp businessmen.
What they would politely call a "ragtag bunch"..
Till they scrape the dust out of their eyes as we blow past!:ROTF:

rob725
10-07-2006, 12:02 PM
Underestimating. Remember, we are already out-producing every team but easynews.

@Kaptain: It is only a little convex. First tested with stock intel heatsink and when I removed it to put on TTBT, it looked like the cpu was making really good contact with the enitre heatsink. It may be that mounting pressure can overcome a little convexity, whereas there was no way mounting was going to overcome the high rigid sidewalls of my other c2ds. That said, if it doesn't react as it should to phase cooling, I will definitely lap it.

Looks like we've some serious power coming online.

This won't help make the 100 in the timeframe, but I'll be adding a kentsfield as soon as they're available.

Also, at some point I will add at least 20 machines at work. Can't do it now because we are in final stages of selling one part of our business and are in the middle of splitting up the IT resources. Should be moved into our new facility by the middle of november, at which time I will borg all the clients. I'm a little reticent to borg the servers as their operation is crucial to the business.

I also plan to leveredge my aid to several friends and coworkers. I'll help them with c2d purchase choices, building and overclocking for the small price of their cpu's idle time. Which reminds me...I can call in a few chips from a64 builds I helped on.

Well, it is finally up and crunchin'.
Been too tired, and lazy, after work on Friday and Saturday. Finally put it together this morning. Not fully up to speed yet on it, but I wanted to get it crunching. It's loafing along at 3100 or so. I'll be cranking it up over the next few.

I should be coming back to wcg shortly after I get XS a bit higher in Primegrid or if joshd eventually passes me :p: and I should be able to get atleast 4 nice Intel cores back online soon, unfortunately no c2d's...yet ;).

OT thread Jack; does anyone know when the e4300 will be released? I have a p5b for a 511j at the moment but would like to swap it for a e4300 when possible, they look to be good clockers and cheap crunching cpu's. ;) :toast:

Time to power up!

Just placed an order a few minutes ago...

2 E6400's, a mobo, some RAM, a HDD, an optical drive, a few low-end PCI-e vidcards.

I still need to figure out what board to use for the second processor. Am hoping to find word that the 2nd rev P5B-E is shipping, definitively, from somewhere. I don't want the first rev...

If the Abit AW9D Max had been in stock I might have picked that up. I'd kinda like to have one 975 board. Don't have to, might not, but it'd be nice.

Anyway, this means very soon I'll have another cruncher up and a little bit later, another. :)

Unless you need the two pcex 16 slots, I just don't see where you get much with the 975s over a p5bdlx, especially with a 63 or 6400, when you want to be sure that the mobo is not holding the chip back. They're just so easy to work with. Now, if you want to run crossfire or sli, then the 975, IMHO, is the better choice.

EDIT: I forgot you were considering swapping your 6600 into a new board. Are you thinking about pairing the 6600 with the ABIT, to possibly take advantage of its extra voltage settings and then put the 6400 in your ds3?

Yeah, that was my thinking. 6400's really like DS3's.
Still not sure I'll get a 975, though. I'm most likely going that dual woody route, too. So I should probably be thinking of the expense involved with that. That will be a little further down the road, though.

Conroe E6600+ @ 3420mhz stock volts\stock cooler hehe.

It will run 24\7 (obviously) I have been running f@h for years, but fancied a change, and this looks like a worthy project.

Should start raking in the points soon (Its running 100% on both cores) so it should crunch some serious data:toast:

I recall we started a list like this in another time.
Maybe it would be a nice idea if in our profiles we had a way to enter this info.

Maybe by entering total ghz infront of each platform item.
Then the info would update automatically a fixed sticky.

We keep our profile info current.

It is a very simple thing realy for those who know php. Unfortunately I am strictly an M$ guy.

And i believe the count is now somewhere in the 80 region but I cant give an exact number due to there not being exact reporting of how many each person has brought online. I personally have brought 11 more to the fold but now 2 are down and not folding for now so would that be 11 more or would it be 9 more? plus ones that are going to be folding can be counted but will they be up before then 20th? as you can see its complex but i'll do what i can to sort through the posts and find an exact number later.

If we're counting cores, we must be getting pretty darn close. Since we started, I've added: 3 a64 cores and 2 c2d cores.

Just helped a friend build a new 6600, another friend will add his a64. Finally found a kentsy, so with any luck, I will be adding 12 more c2d cores in the next couple of weeks. Plus an athlon by tomorrow.

So 5 cores down:

Welcome to the team, boatasiaus!

~~ I got another one up tonight, an E6400 on an S3. Am at 400x8; too tired to mess with it more.

Unfortunately, due to needing to make space.; one up means one down. I needed to use the space and location of my Opty 175 box for the new rig. I'll rectify that tomorrow, and they'll both be running.

~~ Also, while looking around for space I noticed what appears to be a "dead" machine; I'll be looking into that shortly. Also, I'll be converting a Linux only box over to a Windows box, as Linux doesn't score worth a damn. And my name isn't dagoroth...

~~ And lastly, I have another E6400 system in the pipeline. All that is needed is for me to order a motherboard for it.

Is there something out there detailing how much it really adds to the cost of power to run the CPU @ 100% vs. just idling?

rob725
10-17-2006, 09:17 PM
Not sure. It depends a lot where you live. Based on some posts I've seen here, it seems like power rate in some Euro countries is much higher than in US (or at least here in Arkansas). I was pleasantly surprised when my ebill did not go through the roof, but I have not really looked that closely at it.

I have seen all sorts of charts, some saying you'll need your firstborn to pay for it and some saying it's small change..Both guys are wrong..
here in NH with elec at 145 cents per Kw/H running 4 machines, 3DX and one DC Opty with a 550 watt,600 watt,480 watt and dual 350 watt I figured cost me app $100-120/mo

I keep looking at the options and there's so many ways to go. Sometimes I have to stop and take a look around.
My gut always told me:build with the best equipment equipment available and it will last 3 times what cheap parts do at only 2 times the cost.
Add in trying to see into the future at least 2 years and you understand my choices on the woods..

Really depends on what your building for. My main/gaming rig is another story. But these c2ds just oc so easily. I've been wanting to try the s3, because I know people who want to build a less expensive c2d system, but you don't see much about it. After hearing itznfb relate his experience, I thought I'd try it. So far, it seems ok; nice enough bios, easy to work with.

s3's are the sh*t my buddy in australia got his to 450 on stock volts with a 6300

rob725
10-19-2006, 12:16 AM
I'm not sure about stock volts, but if you leave it on auto, it will try to volt for you. I'm currently stuck at 440; can't get it to post at 450 cranking every voltage I can find (except cpu). Still not bad, but I'm pretty sure the chip and ram have plenty of headroom. Maybe I can come up with something. May be a better match for a 6400 where 440 gets you 3520.

Edit:
Apparantly there is a known issue with gigabyte and certain micron ram (which I'm using) that stops oc's above 440. Supposed to be fixed by latest beta bios which I'm not sure is available yet for s3. Too tired to run it down now, but she's crunching away @ 3080mhz on stock cooler @ 1.4v and coretemps of about 58c.

Not sure if they're the same, but I imagine they are.

When I put together my Gigabyte S3/E6400 I used a 20 pin PSU.

The mobo manual says that pin holes 11,12,23,24 ( see your manual ) are the holes to be left unused. The system is running fine w a 1000 MHz(+) overclock...
I used an Antec TP 430 I had around here.

Hope that helps/
