what size bolt do I need for the fan mounting screws? I'm not happy with the supply screws and would prefer some type of machine head screw going through the grill, fan, and gasket. Anyone change theirs before?

tapping the holes on the rad for 6-32 is quite easy (just be careful how deep you go with the tap)

and some 1/2" 6-32 machine screws easily make it through open corner fans and mount to the radiator securely :)

edit: to go thru grill > fan > gasket > rad - just measure and find the length of 6-32 screws you need

thunderstruck!

Does mcmaster sell 6-32 screws? I couldn't find them. Also, what is tapping?

I think you have to drill out the holes bigger is what he's saying. I found some screws that temporary fit perfectly but only had 4 of them. I'm just going to check out some at a hardware store. For future revision I hope they can accommodate some better screws cuz the ones right now is just terrible. :nono: Correct me if I'm wrong but they look like they are suppose to be for wood because of the sharp headed; atleast that's what i saw at the hardware store today.

Agreed.

for self tapping means that the hole has no thread yet...

you could use #6-32 screws or 3mm or #6 metal/wood screw, and when you screw it thru hole thats when your thread takes shape...

but to be safe, i got #6-32 hand tap, tapped said holes #6-32 size and used some 6-32 thumbscrew i have lying around...

My yate loons won't mount the way that drawing pictures Marci as the mounting holes are solid all the way down the side. There is no gap between the fan screw holes.

Just go to a hardware store and get a #6-32 tap (about 4 bucks), and #6x1/4" screws. You don't have to drill the holes at all. Just take the tap and thread it into the holes straight to cut threads. This really is the best way to mount the fans.

Marci,
if I remember correctly, those are 3.5*38mm long, so these should be fine and won't puncture the core if used like this :

fan grill > case > fan > neoprene gasket > rad (like suggested on the site).

Correct?
Or are those 3.5*32mm?

1 1/4" 6-32 bolts will work. You can get them at Home Depot, etc.
