I have a system consisting of:
PA120.3
2 X Laing D5 pumps
Aquaxtreme MP-05 SPLE
Swiftech MCW30
Swiftech MCW60
Swiftech Microres

Anyways. I really despise those nylon/plastic barbs. I have heard its a bit of an issue finding proper metal barbs for these. I was thinking of getting some of Ek's or Dangerden (hi flo) G1/4 barbs.

People have been saying they work ok due to the thread length being short and not having an issue.

My question is, will the metal barbs 100% gurantee a good seal? And if so, which O-ring should I use, Eddy's or Swiftech's?

Thanks.

Yes it will be 100% guarantee a good seal, and why you need o-ring for?

No teflon or O-ring used = leak (almost guaranteed)

The DD high flow barbs come with an O-ring, which is thick enough and provides a good seal.
I suppose you're planning on using them on the Micro-Res, correct?
If you plan on using other barbs on the PA120, then you'll need a G3/8" BSPP.
Cooltechnica has those with 1/2 fittings, which are a prefect match for the rad.

Yup I already have everything besides the swiftech gear on metal.

Thanks for the reply septim. I take it you used the DD orings?

Yeah, you should use the O-rings that DD gives you. The swiftech o-rings are too big and will not make a good seal, no reason to use them. DD high flows make a perfect seal everytime. In fact, only the plastic swiftech ones have caused me trouble.

yea i stopped using my micro res cuz the barbs never did screw in properly orr fully so i got leaks or the torque on the tubing would pull and twist hte plastic barbs in place.

this is what forced me to go t line only. and gosh what a pain for bleeding (and filling)

anyone feel that teflon tape is still needed when using posi-seal barbs with o-rings?

Nope. If no O-Ring, always use PTFE. If O-Ring, don't bother with PTFE.

Thanks for the replys..

Last question, is there any difference in thread length between eddy's and dangerden's barbs? Im thinking of just getting a few of both and seeing which I like better...

I don't know, but I really like the high flow DD barbs. They look great and have short threads, replaced all my barbs with them. Just remember to get the high flow 1/2" ones, avoid the perfect seal barbs, they are crap.

The perfect seals aren't bad. I have some on my Mag II LE and they work just fine. I like the high flow better, but the perfect seal are pretty decent. I had a helluva time getting my el cheapo tubing over them, but not that I'm using Tygon, well...things are easy now.

Never had any EK barbs, but I like high flows as well. I don't like the way the tubing fits over the perfect seal barbs.

I like the "perfect seal" barbs myself. They fit nicely w/ 7/16" tubing. It was hard to get 3/8" tubing on them.

I guess I should have mentioned that. I am using 7/16" masterkleer tubing and it goes on fairly easily and stays on very well.

DD or Ek barbs that come with their own O-ring you don't have to use PTFE taflon tape...
also do not change their respective O-ring with Swiftech O-rings as these are bigger (if i read it right comparable to 9/16 thread barbs)...

i have/am using DD g1/4 high flow for my mcres-micro now with masterkleer 7/16 tubing. i suggest not to overtighten it of course and to use worm drive clamps...

i like the look of Ek g1/4 barbs but of course very expensive airfreight involved is not healthy for my $$$...
