just something purely for fun.
I would be curious to see what other xtreme systems 3dmark team members really work with, just for fun.
nothing serious, just abit to see whos the most insane with thier computer around.

so, post your Pics, if you can, I think it would be fun to see who's working with what.
post a 3dmark score or two if you can.

;)

True. THat is by far one of the coolest (literally) rigs ive ever seen. Excellent job. :)

btw, did watercooling the ati mem chips give much extra speed?

Sorry my friend.even running -27c coolant though the memory coolers it made no differance at all.i have since removed the liquid cooled mem cooler and replaced them with heat sinks.

yea i was alittle extreeme on that project.but that one was a baby compaired to my new one I am working on.i know LN2 guys think they have the advantage......but they better watch out.i checked today and my freezed is being shipped and due to me next thursday.it will reach -121f temps stock.i have to tear it down for parts to start my latest baby.

i will keep every one posted.

i have a pic at home where the lines are frosted over running -27c.maybe tonight i will replace the pic with the current one.

macci

ok thats pretty much what I thought about the ramchips. Wish they would still use the older memchips on these things as those suckers really loved the cold temps (got my old GF3 mem from 575 to 660MHz by using water+pelt on it, and the ram on my original GF3 went from 545 go 645MHz when I cooled it down w/ dryice).

Kunaak:)

I'm around my friend:) I apologize to all because I can't upload the following pics and have them all in one post...so I'll make multiple posts with pics. Since aquiring the Rev 1 NF7-S I've been doing my testing soley on air. With dual channel DDR running at high FSB....great performance can be had on air with a highly overclocked videocard aboard. I've had great success as has our friend macci as witnessed by his great 2003 scores with his AMD under 2500Mhz. Once I get my hands on a Barton I'll put it all back in the Prommy. It's hanging out of the Prom as I'm using the PSU thats in the case. First up is a pic of my entire workstation.

MrIcee

Next up is the custom R-22 chiller I created from what was originally a Movin' Cool portable 10,000 BTU air conditioning unit. The evap is plumbed into an old 16 gallon Metal Coleman picnic cooler which is filled with 16 gallons of 50/50 mix of Texaco Dex-Cool and distilled water. The -30c average mixture is pumped via a Danner 750 GPH mag drive pump to my Swifty MCW50T, plus I have a second set of lines available for future use, ie: northbridge cooling etc. Built this in January 2002, apltly dubbed " MrIcee" :)

macci,

That video was great. Did you just drill holes into the p4 HS to mount it in there?

Great soundtrack too! Two thumbs up. You could use a better server though. :p DLing at 24.5kB/s on T3.

Excellent editing too, funny how the fluctuating voltages are synchronous with the percussion.

bowmans room cracked me up. Even the mouse cable has 5 knots in it ?

Here's my setup, I'm the antiBowman as I am pretty tidy. The 4 under one table are all duals, 15GHz under one table. Quantity not quality is my motto

No extreme cooling for me, just air cooling and I guess you have all seen a picture of varous fans LOL :)

Must buy a silver spray can to attack the CD-ROMs from 3 foot away.

PS The reason I am so tidy has an elbow that you can just see to the far left whilst she plays Freecell on my main machine, thus stressing a Barton at 2400Mhz to it's very core ...

CCW,

Don't have it yet...Bowman still needs to bench a couple of things before he ships it. I'm in no hurry...gives me something big to look forward to! I will use it just to see what OCs I can hit with certain CPUs...cooling the cpu and NB with it...gonna be fun!

Kunaak,

You get -20 with that setup? C or F ? Actual water temperature?

Kunaak

Kunaak,

You get -20 with that setup? C or F ? Actual water temperature?

Yes, it got to -20C on the videocard block, but thats only when testing it, I don't know what it gets when actually hooked to my videocard and northbridge.
I can tell you this though....
The Pump is dead cause the lines froze solid when I was leak testing.

I bought it on ebay for 200.
it cost alot to ship it, thats why it cost 200.

I modified it alittle to use better lines and such.
it worked perfect, till the pump got killed.
when I first got it, it was averaging -6C, but my friend took a look at it, and "refilled it", I don't really know what that means, but it works alot better now....

atleast, it did.

:(

I'll replace the pump soon.

Here's a pic of my current benchmark rig....

xp3000 @ 2823mhz (225 * 12.5) prometia cooled
epox 8rga+, h2o cooled NB, vdd=2.0v, heatsink on voltage regulator
2 x 256mb twinmos pc3200 (winbond) @ 6-3-2 cas2.5 2.9v
sapphire radeon 9800 pro @ 493/378, h2o cooled, vgpu=1.9v, agp=87mhz/1.6v
enermax 431w psu voltmodded
western digital 120gb 7200rpm SE drive
cooltech radiator, pump, and resevour
and a whole lotta fans...

I've only had the 9800 pro for a few days so far but it has been good for 21228 3dmarks... I have a 172w peltier which I haven't tried on this card yet and I have a few other voltmods left to do, so I think 21.5-22k is possible, if not more. I am not sure what's up with the memory because it did 3-2-2 cas2 at the same speed in an 8rda+...

Sorry for the delay, the rad at the back of my case is the thermaltake Aquarius 2 kit it has 2 resevoirs for some reason I'm taking the one off the back, that kit is just to cool the 9800pro. And the other is the koolance kit which cools my cpu and NB its a nice kit, the thermaltake kit is ok but the pump sucks it cools the gpu ok. I just wanted the gpu on its own loop.

my fascination is combining extreme cooling with coustom built, non traditional style cases.
here is my setup that i build last summer :D

this is my "crystal shanty" mk1 (named because of huge size) , and mk2 is on the drawing boards.
this case is made of acrylic and includes a 5,000btu water chiller in the bottom half, while the computer sits on top. the resevoir is about 1.5 gallons and is also made of acrylic. i see water temps of around -8C to -12Cbut could be better but my cap tube is way too short i think, and im using crappy refrigerant charge. my cpu and nb are being cooled in this picture but i removed the nb block due to flow drop.

mk2 will include a homebrew direct die system and be much smaller than mk1 (a huge beast) and will be completed this summer.

I'm still around, just not posting much since I have been a bit lazy with computer stuff lately. I basically have all my rigs set for under 140MHz FSB and on auto-pilot Folding.

right now im running:
epox 8rda vdd modded
swiftech big and loud heatsink
2100+ tbred B @ (215 x 11 for everyday use)
9500np -> 9700

Things often get rotated from wherever. The 2nd picture is what I'm using right this second. It'll be slapped in a case for a lan this weekend, then back out and then "oc'ing the hell out of hardware" phase will begin :P

Kunaak
06-16-2003, 12:22 AM
thats a removable cage that holds the floppy drive and harddrive. it's the standard prometeia case.

that little disk is my kill it all disk.
that disc will kill all information on any hard drive, in a matter of 3 seconds, in 2 steps.
insert, and reboot.
after that it takes about 3 seconds for it to wipe all information of a hard drive, even my information salvaging programs don't work after using this disk.
very handy when killing all the crap on windows, without windows always trying to leave it's footprint on the hard drive even when you think it's cleaned.

Hi ctgilles,
The AC Unit was ordered from b&q online www.bandq.com. Its a 10,000 BTU Habicool unit. And cost me £250. Its very good and made a huge difference to my 3Dmark scores. I couldnt break 23k before, infact I was a long way off and the first day I had the AC unit on I broke 23k without breaking a sweat, infact I got 23400+ at 3.8Ghz. Couldnt even get 22800+ at 3.95Ghz before !!! Also helps to cool the Air For my Water wich in turn cools the TEC on the 9800. Id recommend an AC unit for any Extreme overclocker who lives in a warm area. Not only that but it keeps me nice and cool too :) My computer room gets bloody hot in the summer.

You can get them a lot cheaper and I saw Homebase selling a 10K BTU for £179, unfortunately all the places I went to had sold out - Damn hot weather ;) So I decided to pay a bit more and order one online.

It was worth it :)

what do you guys look for when you are picking a proc? Any speciffic fpo/batch# or pack date? Or are you guys just realy lucky? I need you guys to by my next proc for me...I need a 2.6c, because I wanna try some 1:1 oc'ing with some ram that will hit around ddr600. My 2.4c will get too high for it, so Looks like a 2.6c is the next logical step, but I doubt I would have the kind of luck you guys have :D.

damn...didn't know fry's had such a good return policy...GOD DAMN IT!!! WHY ISN'T THERE A FRY'S IN ATLANTA!!!!

I was in cali a month back, I should have bought like 10 2.6c's and sent the ones back to my friend to return that weren't up to snuff.

Is there any reason in particular why there are 10k fry's, and none anywhere near the east coast? I live in the east...I have a computer...I would love to go to fry's, and test out 30 different procs, but nooooo.

:D

I am gonna try one of those local small computer stores, and see if they will let me do something like that. Maybe I can pay them like 5% more. That would be fine by me if I could get a product that could preform 20% better...and it wouldn't cost them anything.

gouda96

You should tell him to §§§§ off, and that he just lost the business of a very good customer, and then report him to FRY's HQ.

Teach him to complain when you buy 20 procs and only keep 3 :D

Next time you have an extra 2.6c pm me. I will buy it from you :toast:

Usualy you have to go threw quite a few procs before you will find a keeper. When i had my 3.0, i went threw 3 before i found one that would do 4.2.

gouda96
08-24-2003, 01:40 PM
3 isn't too bad for an oc'er like that. I am gonna check with the local stores, but they are pretty bad. Only 2 realy little places, that don't have that much. I will try them, if they don't let me return massive ammounts of stuff I guess I will just have to stick to waiting for good oc'ing procs to go on sale...which has worked pretty well so far. $30 for my 1700 that does 240*11.5 @1.65v on a stock nf7-s, and $130 2 months ago for a 2.4c that does 3.6 on stock air/cooling. I just don't have the patience for it though :(

I am also running a couple of fans off of it and a set of uv lights. I think it is rated for 25 amps and the 50-t's only pull about 14 amps so there is plenty of headroom.

The whole pile o' crap!

gouda96
09-03-2003, 09:10 PM
is that 14 a piece or together?...regardless I guess it works if you are doing it. I wonder if my pcp&p can handle the regular computer components and 2 mcw50-t pelts...It should take 1 just fine...but I don't think it will do too well with 2

2fast4u
09-03-2003, 09:16 PM
That is 14 amps together. Most of the time the fan on the Meanwell isn't even kicking on. I was thinking of running anothe 50-t on the southbridge but it won't fit and the Meanwell would start putting alot if heat in the case at full load. I would go with the Meanwell if money is not an issue, but I have seen many on this forum running pelts wit atx psu's. I would get a dedicated psu for the pelt though as they "surge load" a psu at startup.

gouda96
09-03-2003, 09:24 PM
my 226w pelt on my mcw5000-pt is going on the meanwell, and I don't want to have to spend another $90 if it will work off of my regular psu. I will see how it works...I am gonna pick up another psu for another comp...maybe a 480w enermax. They have realy high amps, so that could be good for the mcw50-t with my comp...i can test and compare it to the pcp&p and see if they realy are as good as everyone says.

2fast4u
09-03-2003, 09:29 PM
My Enermax 460 rev 1.2 is rated for 33 amps on the 12v rail so the 480 should handle it. I just remember reading somewhere that pelts are hard on atx psu's at startup. Post results when you try it out, I would like to see how it handles the pelts. I would like to go to 172w pelts but that takes a 24v psu and I got enough dough in this rig already.

gouda96
09-03-2003, 09:39 PM
2fast...are you running your mem at 240 1:1 for ddr480(in your sig)? That is pretty high for xms3500c2...how high can you get with tight timings? I am gonna be pelting my intel rig up to realy high fsb's (300+) and even with the 5:4 divider that is still pretty high. I have some mem that can do ddr482 @ 2-3-2-6, but I want 2-2-2-x and it might need to go above ddr482. I will be doing a vdim mod to about 3.3-3.4v so i think that mem can handle it, if not I am looking for the cheapest bh-5 chips I can find. The buffalo 3700 seems to be the cheapest so far. People pretty much can get as high as they want with out the mem limiting them with 5:4 divider and 2-2-2-x with bh-5 chips@3.3v so it seems like that might be where I am headed.

2fast4u
09-03-2003, 09:44 PM
I have to loosen up the timings to get stable @ 240. 7-3-3-2.5 to get through 3d01 without a crash. I haven't tried any other timings other than 7-3-3-2.5 and 5-2-2-2, the later of which I like to run. That is without the mem volt mod, which I just did today, and I have to get the water rig back together to test it. I think these are bh-5 but I can't see it for the heat srpeaders. The mem was holding me back on the fsb so the volt mod should do the trick and let me go back to 5-2-2-2

2fast4u
09-03-2003, 09:52 PM
You will have to mod the 3v rail to get 3.4V on the mem vmod and that would fry most mem IMO.

Thanks for the compliments guy's. No, thats not a bra, It's my sunglasses hanging from a lamp! Neat is not a word I understand, at least not outside the case! gouda96
09-04-2003, 09:49 AM
Keep us posted on that new mod nemesis...I would love to see how it turns out.

2fast...I have seen a whole lot of people running bh-5 at 3.3-3.4v inorder to get them upto about ddr500@2-2-2-x, and I haven't seen to many of them getting fryed. If you use buffalo 3700 than it isn't all that much to begin with, so frying them isn't a huge problem. I think I will only need like 3.1v or so to get my current geil gd to ddr500 2-2-2-x. I am curious to see how your bh-5 respond. I am assuming you modded the 3.3v line to raise your vdim? Mine is at 3.5v right now i think...that is what it says in the hardware monitor, which confuses me becuase I haven't done any mods on my nf7-s yet...

I just noticed that the 4pda2+ rev2 has 1.8v or so vcore, and 3.3v vdim. That is realy high...wouldn't need any vmods...I am assuming it is the same for the 4pca3+, so I wonder how their preformance compares to p4c800 and ic7. I don't realy know how these epox boards preform becuase they aren't very wide spread in the us...and that was epox's own choice.

If anyone can shed some light on these epox boards for me I would appreciate it.

seems like it will be a great oc'ing house/shed, except for the fact that you will have to be in the cold. I stick my desktop outside, and have all my cables coming in through the closed door. It can get kind of cold in atl in the winter...not like new england, but can stay in the 20's for a month or so. I can stay in the warmth the whole time too...and the room is huge.
