Pardon me, Sir! Get down with your bad self! I'd love to see that. More power to you. You do know Victor likes the top spot, though....

OK - question on the sneaky side. Can the BOINC client / service be configured such that it doesn't appear in the tray? I am impressed with how little BOINC affects the usage / performance of the PC while running and I don't think it would affect my users, but I'd rather not have them even see the icon and pull it up to see what it is. Any ideas?

If it is not YOUR PC, Ask.

Don't just install, we'd all love to see more work get done, but you must ask.

If you inform them and "sell" the program they should have no problem leaving it up and running for you.

Well - I am the Director of IT and pretty much determine what goes where. I will be able to get the Executive Team to sign off - we have ALL been affected by cancer, but I am trying to just keep it away from the user base as much as possible. They might get motivated to run it themselves at home as a result, but it would also set a precedent for running applications that are not directly related to business process. I'll solve the political aspects, I just wanted to know about the technical options available to keep it in the background.

It can be installed as a sevice and not show up in the tray I beleive.
The guys to talk with on this are RSmura,ShootStraight and maybe Mike047.
Don't take what Bullet2yourbrain said too personally. I think he read your post as you wanted hide the install and we had some issues with that here on another project.
As long as the person has the OK, we'll help you install on 1000 machines..or more!:D

gr8golf, contact me and I'll let you in on the best method of installation.

Install the BOINC client as a service.
Set prefrences to "always run" except on laptops.
Use BOINCVIEW to manage your "herd".

You NEED BoincView and it's not exactly trivial to install (if you don't know how). Drop me an IM or email and I can get on the phone with you do explain. There is also a thread on here somewhere that explains some of it.
