How do you find the S3 + 6300? Me thinking very strongly about getting a setup like that!

it's cheap, and effective :)

the S3 as i'm sure you know is basically a DS3 without raid, and a couple other features. runs great, got the FSB up to 450, maxed out the ram though. i used my patriot ram just to do some testing. i had a lot of problems with it at first. upgrade to F5 bios solved 99.9% of the problems.

 nice but what multi and how stable and what temps?

itznfb

7x multi, it actually crapped out after about 10 minutes though. i've changed my voltages around. 1.45vcore, +.2MCH +.1NB and stock vdimm. still for a $100 board i couldnt' be happier. my temps suck, the E6300 is shaped like a bowl. i've never seen and IHS so concave. i'm currently lapping my E6600, so the E6300 will have to wait.

btw: sorry for totally jacking your thread Acid.

Me too, Acid, but this is great news. Nice going itznfb! I ended up lapping all of mine. I've had to volt 6300 to 1.55 to get stable at 495x7.

 I'm all confused now... cos these guys are saying RAID http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=324364 "Storage Controller ATA-100, ATA-133, Serial ATA-300 (RAID) ".Anyways I'll look further into it. Kinda need RAID :(

EDIT: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2321&ModelName=GA-965P-S3

wtf?

RAID Function for Storage Device
Supporting RAID 0, 1, JBOD function, GIGABYTE SATA2 and PATA Controller delivers completely solution for storage interface to increase fault tolerance, improve data access performance and provides additional interface for more IDE devices

you think you're confused? just imagine if you already owned the board....

edit: plus... if the S3 has RAID, and can do 500FSB pretty easy, then why would you spend extra money on DS3?

Well solid caps might be a small reason. I think i read before that it only has one IDE connect though  Well alls i want is to support a RAPTOR x2 RAID stripe, and my IDE cdrom. Hopefully it'll support my Maxtor IDE on the same IDE, cos i use that to perform clones and use as a 1 minute downtime backup.

Also that ICH8 is not the SATA storage controller. They use some other controller on the board (ie cheap). now I could be corrected on this......

i think you're right on all that. i know the SATA storage controller is a "GIGABYTE SATAII storage controller".

look what i found in the BIOS though...
