View Full Version : Stamina of XS

At present rates, the way I have it worked is that, it will take XS 2 years for them to take Easynews. That`s a 20k Boinc points a day advantage to you every day which is about average atm. I realise this may increase......

Especially if this mythical Godlike , DDTongue :p: does decide to put in an appearance, which given the recent appearances of miracles and such in this modern age is unlikely...:stick: :D

So we`ve seen XS can sprint but can they stay...Have they the gall and the stamina ?

Godo question, it's a whole new challenge this time.

Carl is kidding. He is a good guy and one of the rabble rousers that has supported us during the dark times at the Rosetta Board.

Hey Carl has been accused of being a member of the XtremeSystems. At the rate he is posting here we may get him hooked on the power of the BBQ and Tea

We should give a Carl title: XtremeTeddie

We should give Carl a title: Xtreme Teddie

Second that :D

Ps: The biggest problem is not the time it takes to catch Easynews, maintaining a lead once we got them is going to be much harder.

Carl:
When I came to XS the guys were real good to me so I crunched D2OL to say thanks.. I crunched Rosetta because I thought it was a great app.
I'm doing WCG because it is a good app and there's also a part of me that wants to make a statement to some people in real simple terms:
You doubted what we can do..Now just sit back and friggin watch..
This time it's personal..

Not smoke my friend, I don't have the money to do what I'd like to do here.
BUT I will tell you this: I will bring every PC that I can get my hands on to this project and do my damnest to increase our output by any legal means possible. That's a promise!;)

I havent even begun getting setup yet. But when I do look out:) I have a plan:)

If there was one word to describe XS DC is would be determined... We are always up for a challenge and will overcome anyone or anything.

Carl, you say where is the stamina.... Well overclocking is like viagra to us overclockers so we will keep popping the little blue pills and pass them in no time.....

Damn that sounds a bit :banana::banana::banana:y:rofl:

Carl, can't you make the Teddies a subteam of XS? We could overtake easynews together, instead of us alone :D

Once I get a working ASRock 775-VSTA board, I'll have a second C2D cruncher running. Only @ 2.4ghz, since the ASRock board has a wall @ 300fsb.

mabye we could all buy oursleves and wcg an a christmas present like a c2d e6300 rig or something. and i am not kidding i think for christams we should all (or most of us) buy a chruncher. it would be fun and if say 100 people did it we would boost our output by magnatudes!!!!! mabye this is dumb. mabye it's not but it's to early and we need to focus on getting more guys and some one should store this thought in their brian for future reference? you tell me.

lets spend some money!!!!!!:D :D

It was killing me sitting here looking at the Kentsfield in paperweight mode. I just had to go out and buy all the parts that I have ordered but arent here yet.

Got myself some PNY DDR2 800 1G kit, A BT HSF, cheapo Seagate sata drive and a $49 VC.

Formatting the drives as I type. :D

It'll be stock till my HP parts arrive later this week, but it still should chow through the WU's. :)

Didn't you say you were going to phase that kentsfield? I hope so cause then you could give me some pointers before I do mine.

Is there such thing as a subteam, whereby I could recruit a group of people into a team and still have the points flow up to this team?

Yeah, I was going to phase it, but then I was reading that it wouldnt be the most appropriate for 24/7/365 operation, which is what I'm looking for. Might put this thing under water, perhaps with a chiller.

Wonder what I might be able to get this thing up to under water, 4Ghz?

As to subteams, they really are just an account where the members of the team share password and email, I believe.

If I can remember, I am supposed to write up a proposition to the Supervisor of the Computer labs at my school to convince him to convince the school Netwrok Admin to install R@H-(well that was three semesters ago) now WCG So if someone wants to volunteer to write a short statement of why they should allow me to install on 150+ computers and let it run, then well we would have an entire Lab crunching.

However the down side is to me anyway that each night the systems are shut down, and the software they use DEEP FREEZE reimages the machines when they are booted the next day................don't know if they could work around this.

Can I ask the envionment where it will be kept?
If it's climate controled and always in the 68-72F range air with a good cooler might be the way to go. The tuniq towers are excellent and they can be purchased contrary to what is written. Just have to know the right people.

Me too. What is the main issue with phase on 24/7? Climate control?

Thanks for the subteam info. It would be really nice to have subteams where individuals could still have their own stats, but I still may be able to work with this.

what is going on we are back to the 700k's:

Not really sure. The stat fluctuations at wcg are a little wierd and I think this is the low-point of the curve. Members and machines continue to increase, so the points will too.

Just joined WCG as harmavoidance0. I helped out for rosetta till it was effectively disbanded, been waiting for a new project to join. Comp in sig. Ill add more when i can get some spare machines.

[edit:] i believe you cna get deep freeze to ignore certain directories, otherwise, you might have to make a new image with WCG included and edit startup stuff.
Deepfreeze is a pain :(

No climate control. Wont get much below 60 and could be 95 -100 in the summer. 80 or so if I move it to the garage, but that circuit is maxed out.

Ive got a Scythe Infinity with a 110 cfm 120mm fan coming shortly to replace the BT.

Rob, AFAIK, the issue is condensation. Ive read that even with good insulation, sooner or later if left running sustained under phase, condensation will form and short out of the board. Short of heating it back up, but that seems like alot of energy to make it run in such a manner...

While I'd like to jump into the realm of "Xtreme", I'd like it to be Xtremely reliable, rather than Xtremely broken if you know what I mean ;)

Not sure how long it's been running, but I have an x2 3800+ running 24/7 under phase. Been a while, now. Months I think.

Scott: Question for you:
Is the extra performance worth the extra electric and heat generated especially where you live?
Not a slam, I'm just wondering if phase for DC is cost effective.

No, I don't think so. In the end it is just another cruncher, but damn it does everything fast. Sure is a pleasure to be on that machine. Even more so with Linux.

If I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't have.

Then again, if I get a Socket 775 kit I might feel different, but I doubt it. It'd just be faster yet. But every machine around here screams...

Something to think on..Today I ran into a buddy that I sold xeons to 2 years ago. He's worked out MOST of the bugs in voltmodding the woodcrests.
took a 1860/1066 to 2330/1333..something to think on..told him to come and post here on it.
Oh, and he made me the sweeeeeeetest deal on DDR400 ECC Reg that you ever heard of..SO good that I can't even say it here!:D
