View Full Version : Leveling off?

We seem to have leveled off over the past week at about 740,000 point per day. this is FAAARR from our goal. only about 3 million points per day shy of what we need =\

we need more members. :stick:

Sheeet, we're just getting rolling..Got one more added tonight and working on another tomorrow after the Verizon guys finish the FIOS install..

We will get there. A little patience. NJKID is essentially down and waiting for him to get back up and then it's email time..:D

It takes awhile to get rolling. Were off to a fantastic start. Rosetta was really slow compared to this. Besides, a lot of us havent added our firepower yet. Ive still got 4 machines to put online. One is missing a PSU, other is ram.. 2 are missing boards.

I hate to say it, but i cant push myself to spend $250 on a mb with mediocore performance. Im just waiting for the right board :)

yea, i wasn't there for the beginning of rosetta. so i don't really know how this will ramp up. but i guess how we exploded onto the WCG scene kinda made me feel that it would keep up at that pace.

Think of it this way:
You have a core group that jumped right in..80-90 people..
Then more come in one by one( we're at 105 now I think) and then people start to hear more and more and see the sigs and it grows at a pretty decent clip..I have total faith that this team will out do anything we did on Rosetta in terms of amounts of members and output. WCG will be the beneficiary..In the end the project will do well from what we can bring to it.

i am at about 80% right know need a fan to cool a dell 2.4 northwood and a conroe for the main rig:D hopefully i will be getting some new rigs in soon (clients old rigs) and everyday we gain aleast 1 person!!!!!! if this keeps happening then soon we will have more power!!! i still think that a 1million day would bring some people out!!!!!!! sure worked with me and rosetta. we could also post in the other dc sections and the rosetta section about the 1million day hopefully it would bring other chrunchers for the day or weekend and mabye full or part time after that once they see how nice everyone is here:D

what do you guys think?

Well i still have 15 rigs that didn't move yet...It took me time to remove rosie from there and now i don't really have time to install wcg, but it will happen eventually in the coming month :stick:
To make things worse, 3 rigs died on me yesterday...one is at the doctor ( don't have time to fix it myself )1 is dead for good, and one is back.

What do you think about the new ABIT 975 Max board? May have some promise due high voltage choices for vcore/vmch/ram.

Overpriced Abit junk. Look at it like this.. It doesnt clock any higher than the $300 Asus Pro... the Abit is $300.. The Abit has horid layout, especially for the BTX case crowd. I still need some legacy support.. So how can they justify $300 for that board? They both get their asses handed to them by $200 P965's... When the new Nvidia and ATI RD600 boards hit retail in droves, the prices of these 965/975 boards will drop..

High voltage more than the Asus provides?

We are talking about 24/7 crunchers. The levels of high voltages that are used to benchmark are realy scary and does not serve our purpose. I doubt that they are any good for the life of the equipment.

We need reasonably priced, good overclocking board (maybe 400Mhz fsb) for 24/7 crunching. Stable, low vdroop, easy to work with and has NO bugs. So far, they all have some problem or another.

Agree; bad layout, price higher than expected, shaky bios and previous experience with Abit not good. Does maintain 1066 strap and no lame hard reboot and voltage for vmch may give better oc if they can fix bios.

Best option for reliable, inexpensive 2-core 24/7 cruncher may be amd/dfi at $250 for mobo and chip, as I agree there seems to some problem with just about every c2d mobo.

at the level of overclocking required for crunching, i think you're safe with the Asus P5B, and GigaDS3. the only problems i've run into on my Asus are at extremely high clocks/voltages.

while on this topic..... think its worth it for me to sell my Opty/K8N Diamond Plus/OCZ RAM for an E6300 setup?

you think? my E6600 underclocked to 2.2ghz absolutely destroys my Opty165 OCed to 3.1ghz. i would have to assume the 6300 would be just as powerful less the 2mb of cache?

I think it's definately worth swapping the amd setup for a 6300 if it's the same price. The C2D most likely will clock higher than the amd and has the added (20%?) clock for clock advantage. :toast:

well, i just dumped my results into excel, and compared all my machines over the past 5 days and found that my opty produces exactly the same amount of points as my C2D. so no sense in upgrading conserding my opty is crunching 100% of the time. those two machines only produce 2000 more points a day than my prescott and about 4000 points more than my northy.

Got Chow

Don't forget that it can take a few days to validate the results, so the recent influx of members could take a little bit to show an increase in production.

my C2D @ 3.2ghz isn't outscoring my opty @ 2.9ghz. it beats it in all the benches, but doesn't seem to do any better in WCG.

i just checked, my opty hasn't reported the last 10 or so WUs, so the opty is actually scoring higher than the C2D.

Interesting. Checking quickly, I don't think my c2d's are currently doing much better per core than a64 at 2.7 ghz, but I'm not sure that was always the case.

Haltech

Well i know in Rosetta the C2D made a difference. I have not crunched WCG on an Opty, than compared it to my C2D.. I cant see the A64's being faster than these suckers on WCG unless the BOINC client is screwing us over again. I get about 5-7K a day with mine.

Actually I think I bought the P4 XEON 2000/512/533 chips, got them for a good deal (that Movieman--what a guy). I actually never used them. I never got around to building that system since I ended up getting out of the Army. I got a job as a contractor and decided to build my "Nocona" system. Still have those chips though if anyone is interested.

I can't believe that jerkoff over at WCG, what an immature little  !!

I will install Boinc on my gaming machine just to catch up to that guy.

That's about what I'm getting; a little higher for the 6700 due to 4mb cache I think. I was getting 7-10k, and looking through results, I don't believe all of the difference is due to higher claims from previous client, since I so rarely got anything but the same low scores I get now. Sure, once in a great while, I'd get paired up with another high score, but not very often. Just to give an idea, here are points on 6700 rig going backwards in time.

6706 = yesterday
5924
6698
6142
4661
8461
10,583
9571
5374
10515
7225
10,302
7941
5933

My a64 defininitely isn't faster, but If I factor in clock speed, they are running neck and neck and that really shouldn't be the case.

Maybe whatever we are crunching on WCG works very well on AMDs?

I know that the HDC WUs crunch very quickly on my Dothan 2.0GHz laptop. Way faster than the 2.8GHz dual core P4 I have at my desk at work. But my Opteron crunches pretty fast too.

Anyone with one of those 1.6GHz low voltage Xeons on the Asus PC-DL? I'm picking up a set this afternoon and hope it will crunch these WCG units pretty quickly, especially with some overclocking and watercooling. :D
