I looked tonight and I'm up to #36 on the team after a late start!
I'd tease but I don't know who I passed when!
You guys aren't going to let me get away with this are you?
All I have on so far is 3 DX's, the 3600, the 2400 and a old DX2000/512/400 IBM Intellistation that I paid $30.00 for..:D
Now to figure out how to catch the big guys on this team!
Damn!I don't know if thats possible but I will try!:p:

Those 266's went beyond what I'm willing to pay. My max was $326.00 and they are allready up to $380.00 with 3 hours left.
275's I'd have gone more $$ for but the 266's you have to be very carefull with voltage on..a shame..would have made a good cruncher..:(

Me too. 2 of c2d's always have a large work queue, but the other gets jobs as it finishes jobs and I have seen times where only one core was crunching. I have had to manually update several of them to get them to report. Been looking for settings I may have missed, because I thought I was the only one having problems.

I have also noticed reduced production the last several days and I don't mean points (though they are also down). I mean both results and more strangely run time. The only thing I've changed since bringing up the other two c2ds last weekend is the client.

I figured I'd wait to see if I was experiencing a strange validation lag or just noticing a statisitcal anomoly, because team runtime seemed ok. Seeing this I thought I'd just ask if anyone else has seen an inexplicable drop in run time on a per-machine basis since switching clients.

rob725
09-16-2006, 10:37 PM
Btw, I hope nobody's thinking that I am trying to push for going back to the opti's because I don't like reduction in claimed credits. Near as I can tell the benchmarks are doing what they are supposed; claimed credits are usually pretty close in the quarom regardless of machine speed.

I was wondering however, if crunch3r's compiler optimizations had some positive effect beyond the bechmark. If so, it might be possible to compile a version that doesn't use sse (so doesn't improve benchmark dramatically), but simply is more correctly optimised for intel and thus runs better. My understanding (could be wrong) is that crunch3r's opti's do not modify the berkely boinc source, but simply recompile them with more optimal settings.

My A64, Asus K8N.

It boots but goes to a blue screen, a while ago fixing PCs would have been easy, but I
have Cerebellar Ataxia, it severely limits what I can do, Ive got a friend, to build my new PC.

I am building my versions here with sse enabled in the gcc options. It gives a small speedup, but not really much. Crunchers optimisations have a changed benchmark algorithm, i am pretty sure here. (will compile here with -mfpmath= see and see if that was it ;) )

Maybe; not really sure myself; the information out there seemed to be all over the map. Had seen a page that was supposed to have shown different compiler options used by varying opties. I'll see if I can find it.

So are you guys seeing this in your message tab? Ie if you count the "Computation..." message in Boincmngr you see something wrong?

@rob725: Are all three PCs using the same prifile? My Grid -> Device manager
What about looking at My Grid -> Device manager -> Results status ->filtered by device name, sorted by Sent time. Can you compare the return counts? Do you see a low turnover?

One more thing: Everyone is aware that you select the projects to participate in using My Grid -> My Projects. Specifying the projects in My grid -> Device manager -> Device Profiles -> then click to edit profile HAS NO IMPACT if you are using Boinc client. Only the former counts. So please make sure that you check the "If there is no work available for my computer ...." box in the former, the latter does not matter at all unless you are using UD.

No, nothing like that. Just a significant drop in runtime and results returned even though nothing had changed. Similar to what happened to XS last stats run. I know we were missing a major contributor, but our drop in runtime and returns was way more than can be explained by that. It's only one day, so may just be wierd statistical thing, but that's what I thought about my own stats and they still (4 days) have not returned to previous levels.
