I just bought a badaxe rev 305 and spent like 1.5 hours trying to get the blue sata ports the found out here that those are not used for jbod.

Anyways I am looking for some SATA PCI HDD controllers, this is the first time buying one. So any help and suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Of course cheaper the better but more then money I want the best stability I can get so what do you guys suggest.

Thanks

1) Budget?
2) How many drives?
3) Do you care about Uber performance on these drives?

Even single Raptors can push up to 90+ MB/s, so two or more modern drives will be starved on the 32bit 33MHz PCI bus. Strongly suggest you find a cheap PCI-Express controller to run in your x4(x16) slot.

This (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815124027) and this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16816132003) can be had for just under $40 delivered.

1- Less then $100

2- Atleast 4 SATA 150

3- Well I have my raptor for OS and games hooked up to the onbard SATA, and on this controller I am just going to have HDDs with Music, Movies, etc... So I guess uber performance doesnt really matter too much (right?).

4- I am only going to use the controller with JBOD, no fancy RAID.

A quick question if I was to get a SATA II (3Gb/s) Controller and hook up a SATA (1.5Gb/s) HDD, would that run ok? What about vice versa?

Thanks

Just FYI, if you select Sil Concantenation you can set up single drive configurations on the bad axe.

Thanks for the input bro. I dont know where to select sil concantenation? I tried looking in the sil image software the mobo came with called "sataraid5 (array manager)". Also I looked in the bios and couldnt see the option you are mentioning.

Based on your other post in the bad axe thread, I think you have this answer already. But, in order to have the question answered in this thread, you set the Sil Concantenation under the Silicon Images bios by hitting Ctr S during boot at the prompt.

Then this should work wonderfully for you
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16816102043
and yes, you should not have any problems on using a SATA/SATA2 drive on a SATA2/SATA card

Thanks a lot man, and the product you recommended looks good, but I wont need to buy it because mdzcpa helped me get the sil image to work with my HDDs.
