Apple just refreshed the Mac Mini line up:

1.66 GHz Mac Mini
60 GB 5400-rpm SATA Hard Drive
512mb (2x256)
Combo Drive
$599 USD / £399

1.83 GHz Mac Mini
80 GB 5400-rpm SATA Hard Drive
512mb (2x256)
Superdrive
$799 USD / £529

Couldn't resist, bought the basic model.

Basically to sum it up, the old high model becomes the new low model with Core Solo being phased out, basic model cannot be configured with superdrive so DVD/CDRW only for it!

Anyone else tempted?

Also if your in higher education, you can get 10% off and upgraded 3 year from 1 year warrenty via the NUS Apple store. ( £359 / £475 respectively ).

Mine arrived today, very impressed! Very quiet and works like a charm for a surfing machine!

Yes, bought one few days ago (Solo). Meanwhile apple refreshed their line up as you said. Fortunately I could revoke my contract and ordered the new setup ... hope UPS will deliver it next week.

Indeed the education program is money-saving ... got a discount of about 12%. Added a printer to take advantage of the current rebate (perfect companion). It's worth it :fact:

They are fairly okay priced but they have removed the possibility for Superdrive in the cheapest version :(

Superdrive for an additional charge of 'bout 50€ isn't cheap at all. Just bought a Pioneer K06L and upgrade the mini myself ... it's worth it!

Some people like to keep the warranty.

Indeed quite tempting but just having bought a laptop I better hold off a bit before I add another rig to the mix.

Of course they will, the Yonah stock is running out ;) Though I'm waiting for the x60 tablet from lenovo/ibm :)

Can someone run Xbench on one of those and see how well it scores compared to a MacBook. I might be interested in getting a Mac Mini for a simple home desktop setup.

Xbench is a terrible program to determine performance by though . . . ;)

I can see your point though, it is nearly the only one readily available :(

Otherwise there is some Photopshop tests around that are pretty good but only if you use Photoshop a great deal.
