Nice. Just got my replacement p5b to pair with a 6300 and was hoping for 500ish myself. Are you doing anything special for NB cooling? Opinions appear to be all over the place and I've never run anything at such high fsb.

Get a TT Extreme Spirit II NB cooler.. goto www.peformance-pcs.com and check out their kickass chipset section. the 965 gets hotter than the 975x!

Can you go any higher if you knock ratio down to 6, just to see if its cpu.

I really appreciate the input. I was having a hard time getting an answer about this. I'm currently building a couple of 965's, so I bought I few different nb coolers to try for size, not knowing which might fit with TTBT and Scythe Infinity. The one you mentioned was one, the other was Jin Ting, and the thermalright HR-05 was the other.

The HR-05 looks like a tight fit. The TT will fit great with TTBT; have to see about with the Infinity, which I've seen pictures fitting Jin.

Again thanks. I really wasn't sure if any of these little guys would do as well or better than simply cleaning up the stock cooling package.

Are you using the TT?

Glad to hear it. We need all the output we can get.

I'm trying to get a new cruncher up myself, but the BIOS seems to be FUBARed. I was able to update it to the latest, but still can't seem to change values in it, though I can navigate within it. Friggin PITA! I'm on hold with Asus Tech Support right now, hoping for a solution, but am afraid I'm going to have RMA this friggin board.

You called Asus today too! Good god took them 15 mins to get to an actual person, when there wait time said 6 minutes. This is the second time I called Asus; called them yesterday too but didn't get a callback so I called again.

Yeah. And I am going to have to RMA the damn thing. :(

This was on a P5B Dlx/WiFi-AP.

I have another P5B Dlx here (non-Wifi ) that I'm using with an E6400 ( it is a combo special from Fry's ). The stock cooler isn't working too good; the system/CPU is way too hot. So I may remove the chip and stock cooler, then put in my 6600 and cool it with my Thermalright. I have til the 18th to return the Fry's combo, so that could tide me over til I get my RMA.The Ultra 120 is huge and cools real well with the 79 CFM Aerocool fan.

This was on a P5B Dlx/WiFi-AP.

Getting my two P5B's going has been a bit of an ordeal as well. The first one was kind of like yours. I could run at stock/auto settings, but could not change anything of significance in bios without losing abilty to POST. Had to RMA that one.

The second one was looking good up until the time it started smoking, but I'm pretty sure that was my fault as I was running at 450fsb without giving nb adequate cooling.

Just got 2 new boards in Wed and both are good. I'm building one for my wife and one for the bench. Built my wife's on Wednesday and tried to get by saving some money on value gskill. Bad idea, as I would have easily traded in the savings for the time and aggravation I spent fighting to get stable overclocks. So I RMA'd those sticks for some gskill hz.

Was able to work on the 6300 bench system last night using some 8500 gskill that I took out of my main rig, since it was going to waist running at 1:1 700mhz.

Finally, a system that worked like it's supposed to! Primed 490x7 through the night. Refuses to stabilize at 500fsb. Can load windows and do 1M SP, but reboots after a second of orthos. So close, but it's just not happy there. Might be able to volt through it, but I'm not so sure I haven't found the limits of the processor on air (although it's running cooler than my 6700, even at higher volts).

Should have the other ram today, so hopefully will have two new super-crunchers going by Saturday.

just got all my conroe crap in:

e6600 L628A268
P5B Deluxe
Patriot PDC22G6400LLK

i think i'm just going to throw my 7900gt in it until DX10 cards come out. i don't think my 7950GX2 is compatible with the P5B.

7950 wasn't listed on the compatibility chart for p5wdh either, but it works flawlessly. I think as long as your bios is 507 or later, you're good to go.

i think i need an nforce chipset, or a 975 chipset. i got it for my Opteron machine, but now i'm not going to be using that machine for gaming or anything.

I think some people have it working. Early problems, but bios update seems to have fixed it.

@Haltech:
Thanks again. Put that TT Extreme on my wife's rig and its doing a great job. It's silence surprised me. Wish it had springs or something. I had no idea how far to tighten it and kept checking it while priming to make sure I didn't smoke another p5b. Wish ASUS had added a NB sensor to these boards.
