The latest beta release of CrossOver Mac finally fulfilled my dreams of running CS 1.6, HL2, and CS:S natively in Mac OS X. Check out the vid for the proof! This was done on my 17" MacBook Pro just FYI.

THIS VID HIT FRONT PAGE ON DIGG, THANKS FOR ALL OF THE SUPPORT ALL!

Yeah this is a whole Macintel revolution of getting everything to run from inside Mac OS X. One day, I'll never have to load Windoze again :D w00t!

What is CrossOver Mac?

FragTek
09-07-2006, 09:34 AM
It's an application that allows Windows programs to run natively in Mac OS X on Intel based Mac's.

And what kind of DirectX can emulate?

FragTek
09-07-2006, 02:19 PM
It currently works best with DX 7 & 8 but I haven't had any problems running with DX9 yet, so until I do run in to problems I'm going to run with DX9.

I was extatic... I don't think people really understand exactly how awesome this is. Because the biggest excuse to I hear day in and day out about how "gay" a Mac is, is because it doesn't support 90% of all software (which really isn't true, there's a clone of just about everything for Windows on a Mac). So now, those people can all stfu :)

Hey Frag I noticed while running in Windowed mode if you are crotched you cannot shoot. I haven't tried rebinding the keys yet but I am sure that is a simple fix...It thinks you are trying to right click in game when you hold Ctrl naturely.

I was running Day of Defeat and it worked great even on my MacBook. Windowed mode does seem to work better than FullScreen thus so far. But they are getting there with it that is for sure.

FragTek

Ah yeah, i bet ur right with the ctrl-click action... Didn't think about that *duh*

And final release of COMac is going to be so awesome, they have my money!

Not really native, your still running it in a emulator. That's all crossover is basically, just a artificial API.

In a way, yes. Because CrossOver actually allows the software to work with the hardware. The emulation really is only for the Windows codebase to work on Mac OS X, but the other aspects of the software functioning so well are that it's able to actually utilize the physical hardware in your machine.

It's more native than it is emulated.

Well I am poor and don't pay for stuff generally...I usually look for other means of getting it.

But if I did I would pay for it.

So did you steal that 2 thousand dollar laptop? Just odd for a Mac Book pro owner to claim poverty when it comes to a $40 piece of software.

Who said I have a MacBook Pro? Does it say that anywhere? And who said I paid for this "MacBook". And I have never ever paid for any piece of software in my life.

And I feel pitty for those who "pay" for Vista at such a high price for such a piece of crap.

Looks good, doesn't it?

Even though I prefer playing games via bootcamp - but for a quick CS round without restarting, CrossOver fits perfectly!

Fragtek....would it be possible to run a benchmark in CO and compare to BootCamp? This is freaking sweet, just wondering how much we can really expect from this....

FragTek

Once I get the final release definately, currently no benching apps are supported with COMac yet.

Alright test complete... I would have expected a tad bit better but I'm still very happy with the results considering we're talking about some breakthrough Windows/Mac translation and no DX9 in OS X.

Final result was 26.64fps all settings on high & no AA/AF.

Does that test feature HDR? I forget...

This is going to open a lot of doors to people and probably promote more Mac sales and all. Imagine what a Mac Pro could do. Someone get FUGGER to test it on one of his Mac Pros.

Hey Frag did you trying running Source within Windows via BootCamp? And if so what was the FPS then?

Hey Frag did you trying running Source within Windows via BootCamp? And if so what was the FPS then?
I run Source all the time via BootCamp, I still use it when I go to play (and I play a LOT). I won't use CrossOver until they have a full-screen fix out that doesnt cut off the top portion of the screen.

And I can't remember exactly what my benchmark result was under BootCamp but it was a crapload higher.
