View Full Version : C2D v P4 anyone?

Has anyone been able to run SOB on a C2D and P4 yet? I remember Riptide said that the CEM/s numbers change when you have different K or N numbers, so has anyone had the fortune to get a good comparison with the same test on how much the C2D kicks ass?

I need some help before I waste all my money on 1 or 2 C2D rigs if the P4's aren't much slower. :toast:

Clock per clock? I am guessing 4 times the speed. But that is just a guess off the top of my head.

I'll say this again! It is my reckoning that a Conroe at 2.4Ghz (stock for E6400/6300??) is broadly equivalent to a P4 at 3.75Ghz. Anyone like to prove/disprove this?

EDIT: Remember this is a core to core comparison ;)

EDIT: I have also found a 18-20% differnce between block tests depending on n values. And I have found this difference on a Gallatin and an Athlon 600Mhz.

I don't yet have any c2d rigs up yet, but here is a screen of an old 2.0G Northwood crunching. :p:

I also have a t2600 running SOB and will post a screen later if you need it.

alright everybody i own both cores.

a P4 2.4b @ 2.775 with will do about 3.5 mill cEM's/sec

a 2.66 Kentsfield @ 3.2 with mem at 960 4-4-4-8 will do about 6.3 mill cEM's/core
a 2.66 Kentsfield @ 2.776 will do about 4.8 cEM's/sec per core

so a conroe/allendale/Kentsfield is about 37% better at SOB clock for clock

I have found that if i run my memory @960 MHZ instead of 820MHZ i get about 400,000 more cEM's/sec from my cpu.

So.... In my example above 2.4Core/3.75NetBst = 65%. So its ballpark ;)

Anyone have some numbers for presler cpu's? Or does core not make a difference? I think a 905 rig would make for a sweet SoB rig, but thats my opinion.

Presler and smithfiels aren't that much of a difference I think, and with my D820 @ 3.4 I get about 4.4 million cEMS/sec on both clients if I stop using my system.

just so we have a good #

my Conroe @ 3ghz with 1 instance running is pulling down 6.3 through 6.6 million CEM's

this is with RAM 1:1 333*9 3-4-4-8

good for about 23.2G's per update from one client
