View Full Version : Achieving 2.1Ghz

Back in winter earlier this year I managed to get 2.1Ghz out of my CPU and was well happy... try it nowadays and I can't get it to stay in Windows long enough to complete a Sandra bench...

Anyone know of any cunning tricks that might improve my uptime? I only need to be up for 5 minutes to get thru the sandra cpu bench and get a screencap (altho it'll have dodgy characters all over it as my radeon freaks out at 210fsb!!)

I've got cpu voltage at 2.1v and fsb set to 210x10. Tried lower FSB and higher mult but it's even worse...

Or should I wait til I get some water on it?? Still using air-cooling.

I've tried getting Windows boot time as low as possible... it's not an overheat problem... it's just that windows bluescreens then reboots... using XP Pro at the mo

*determined to prove 2.1 by air is possible, dammit!!!*

What stepping is that!?
AGOIA AROIA y/4?
What is the stable Mhz u can run air?

I once had a good hour stable out of it at 2.1ghz (210 x 10) but then the weather got warmer and I ended up doing other things and not touching it fer a while... by the time I got back to having time to mess about a bit with stuff weather had got too warm and now it won't get there.... usually runs rock solid anywhere upto 1990mhz... at night will tootal along at 2ghz when air temps have dropped...

just hot weather has caused it to get a little unhappy about doing so...

dunno about stepping... i unlocked it and clamped it under my alpha pal8045 months ago and have nver taken it off since... altho will do soon as hopefully shifting to liquid cooling

what are the temps at your most rock solid speed. What are room temps, systems, etc.

ambient 18 on a good day... 20 at highest (system in basement away from all daylight)

under load usually around 48-50 degrees when at 2ghz... used to fry itself upto 65 until i stacked the 92mm on top of the delta

Here's my fan layout (sorry for crapness of it!! will try to redo better tomorrow)

http://www.over-clock.co.uk/marc/store/marcifanlayout.bmp

The 60 & 80mm deltas are the dual / fixed blade ones that are twice as deep as normal deltas...
All 80mm YSTechs are 2.92w ball bearing.

Ducting in place from open window to front intake fan. Second duct from outtake fan back out the window... currently running at 1.9ghz whilst playing halflife firearms at 42 degrees (200x9.5@2.05v, ram at +.6v - 2,3,6,3 on 8k3a+)

yeah i know. I wish mine would clock that high. :( I'm stuck at 1890 right now but my temps are higher than his cause that basement is freakin cold.

even though your temps are in the safe from death zone your still to high to stabalise that oc you have there. your going to need a little more voltage if you have the nuts for it and somthing to try to disipate a little more heat. i notice you said 2.1V not 2.2 or somthing along those lines id recomend atleast going up to 2.2 and also add in a big fan so that you can record your oc with a sandra run. i know you said that you wanted to do it with air cooling so what id say is take off the side of the case. get a piece of sheet metal or somthing and grab yourself a 10" floor fan or box fan as box fans move mroe air and adapt id down to go over your heat sink. get the biggest mother of a fan you can on your hs.

you have a 2000?
bad stepping or something or is cooling just limited. I am aircooled but the noise that I have to tolerate is almost unbearable. I have 6 fans all louder than 55db.

well hell wish you could clock as high as mine. I got an agioay 2000 and you aren't that far behind. I also have what sounds like vacum cleans all over my case. It kinda sucks but at least it looks cool. ;)

Hence why my system lives in the basement... I have no monitor, so TV Out cable comes up thru the cieling into my living room into TV, where I also have my cordless keyboard & mouse... means no matter how many fans I have in there it won't bother me!!

All fans hooked upto Innovatek 4ch RheoStat for ease of adjustment etc.

Will post CPU steppings as soon as I can be arsed to get all the fans out to be able to get to the board to get that out so that I can get my Alpha off...

good point. I live in a small ass apartment so wherever I am I can here my system. All my fans are above 55db and I have 7 of them.

Not sure of dBa ratings... but here are the fan models:

All 80mm Deltas are FFB0812SHE
All 60mm Deltas are FFB0612SHE
All 80mm YSTechs are FD1281257B-2A (2.76w)
All 60mm YSTechs are FD1260257B-2A (2.16w)
All 40mm YSTechs are FD1240105S-1A (0.78w)
92mm Fan is the one that comes with the Zalman CNPS6000 Heatsink, with the speed-controller dead!

Anyone know where u can get 40mm deltas???!

dayum. I live in a house and I'm not sure how u can stand fans above 55dba in a small apartment, lol. All my fans are under 40dba, all cept cpu fans are under 35dba

yeah it gets extremely annoying at times. I like how when it powers down it sound like after a plane lands and they turn of the engine. I realize how quiet it is cause I do sleep next to this thing and I get kinda used to it. When I turn it off I remember how nice the quiet is.

lol. I'd like to think that if i had one of those 80CFM delta's on my AX-7 that I could bench 3DMark w/ np's at all over 1.9GHz. Should pick one up just to bench with hehe. Definitely couyldnt stand to have that in my system 24/7

Chong345

yeah do you think I could use the 3pin adapters on the digi doc to control my vantec tornados? that way if I'm not benching I could set them to slow rpms? Or do they draw to much power. There are enough adapters to control all of them and montior temps. Also getting all the 4-3 pin adapters is gonna suck cause all my fans are 4 pin. Thats gonna be a buncha cables. Do they make one thats not a y adapt.

Chong,
I don't know anything about digidoc's :)

Skatan,
I'm glad we finally agree on something ;)

jus a shame we have to fork out for such huge quantities to be able to stock the AX-7... I take it it'd beat an AlphaPAL8045...?

Not sure on what juice is safe to put through a DigiDoc... all I know is the Innovatek 4ch Rheostat can cope with em, so in theory the Digidoc should be able to also... as for adapters... just hack off the molex on the fan, find an old 3pin fan and hack the connector off leaving about 2 inches... black on the 3pin is your fan rpm signal so disregard that. 10 seconds with a soldering iron and you instantly have 3 pin fans. Or just twist wires together and use LX tape.

As far as the AX-7 vs the PAL8045 performance-wise...I believe they are very similar. I went for the AX-7 over the 8045 for 2 reasons:
1) Its a couple dollars cheaper here in the US.
2) Its nice and easy to install/remove ;)

I like it's looks... plus I swore by the SK6 so the new release would be nice in a loyalist kinda way...

If anyone spots any comparison reviews of the 2 a link'd be ace!
In fact, I'm posting it as a new topic, see what we get...

Not had chance to try it yet... I got a bit too into Firearms Halflife last night....!

Got a meeting for the musicfest tonight (see www.themusiccollective.co.uk) so I won't get in til around 11pm, but will see if I can get anything done... failing that it'll be either friday night or sunday morning next chance I get...
