I like Bit-Tech, actually I look at it everyday with others, but come on have some pictures I can actually see. If my desktop was at 800X600 I might be able to see something but at 1280X1024 it's hard to see what is what. This isn't 1995, bandwidth is cheap, have some clickable pictures that I can actually see.

yup, my dell performs way better now after the reinstal and windows tweak.

though i'm sure this dell doesn't touch a custom pc in the same price range but you can't beat dell's kickass case and clean cable managment.

edit: anybody know where you can buy dell cases on their own other than ebay scraps?

I see no IC closeups though.

An SPD eeprom flash later and you may have some ballistix, but I doubt they run well in that board that has no OC options.


What can we say about this specification? Well, the most obvious thing is that the selection of memory for this system is totally retarded - yes, it's great to have 2GB across two sticks, but why does Dell even offer the option of 667MHz memory, let alone send it in for a system review? The E6700 is designed to run at 800MHz, but Dell doesn't offer an option to have two sticks of that speed at 2GB, which is really, really stupid.

So is not knowing the default FSB of the CPU in the system you're reviewing.

Are you kidding? I've seen machine's with a $500 price tag with much better cable management than that. They need to call up their new company and get some assemblers to come help out their XPS line.

actually most of the DDR coming out of dell, gateway and other is Samsung elcheapo stuff.
cant say for sure on this particular system but it looks identicle to my oem gateway samsung ddr667, atleast it can do 820 5-5-5-15 w/ 2.1v but thats all..

its not bad the conroe dont react much different anyways from 4-4-4- to 5-5-5 at the same clocks. so.. cheaper looser ram but same clocks. hell why not.

Micron is just the chips. All generic RAM will use chips from one of the major producers because, well... thats where the chips come from. But they can still be low speed or not good at clocking because you have to account for yeilds just as you do for processors. Not to mention low quality PCBs etc

Guys, not everyone knows how to or wants a custom pc, these people buy dells.

Complaining about overclocking options on an oem pc, not reinstalling windows before benching and moaning about no sli when it looks to me that the option is there, is pointless.

You are not a bunch of n00bs that buy 'l33t dell gaming machines' so why bother to complain about it, for the people its aimed at its more than good enough.

Did you even read my post? Besides I think you have the wrong idea of "generic". I have never seen completly unbranded memory thus all RAM is "brand memory". Generic usually describes low quality or OEM modules. We buy generic RAM for our office computers but most of it has Twinmos or Samsung lables on it.
