An idle computer uses about as much electricity as a 60W-75W bulb. It's once you crank up something intensive it starts to pull power.

A portable air conditioner or portable A/C is an air conditioner on wheels that can be easily transported inside a home or office. They are currently commercially produced and sold in the U.S. with capacities of 6000 to 14000 BTU/h (1800 to 4100 watts output), with and without heaters, by companies like Gree, GE, EdgeStar, DeLonghi, Maytag, LG, Sunpentown, Fujitronic and others.
So what do you think?

My 10,000BTU window AC is rated at 9.2AMPs, or 1058 watts. That is probably only at startup and probably settels down to about 6-7 AMPs running, thats stillabout 600-700watts. While my PC may draw 300watts worst case scenario

a 5,000 btu window ac (most small rooms) draws about 500 watts while running, some higher end computers may go over that but not most older ones, monitor can have a fairly large impact

Hmm, I wonder about this too. My Desktop is basically always on and crunching, monitor off when idle but with my 550W PSU I wonder how much my 3500+ is pulling at 100% load.

Search google with "your CPU type" power consumption if you want to find more info.

well i use my PC and watch TV like 24/7 and always have. the electric bill has always been sub 100$ including two refridgerators lights everything(normally 70-80ish)

my mother's fiance moves in an insists on using the AC full blast and in one month the bill is up to 180 and I'm being lectured to cut back... trust me his damn presler consumed(he RMAed the system for a core 2 system after I showed him benchmarks) about twice as much as my undervolted daily use/backup system...

It's called deregulated energy. Like I said it was my parent's bill, I was told to help them price around. This is also Houston, 95-100+ F in August with 80+ % humidity. They also have two A/Cs one for the majority of their house and one for their room. The house itself is around 2500 sq ft with 10 ft ceilings and 25 ft ceilings in the living room, dining room, and kitchen. It all equals itself out, I can guarantee you that the mortgage on a 2500 sq ft house in Houston is a hell of a lot cheaper than a 2500 sq ft house in CA.

even cheaper than a 2500 sq foot house within biking distance from the beach...

ehh house is only 2495(I beleive) counting the addon... thank God for buying well before the real estate boom...

still that can't be right 700$ a month on electricity... that is crazy... that's nearly 10fold our usual...
