which pins do u connect to run a power supply without plugging it into a motherboard?

Assuming you are talking about an ATX PSU, pins 14 and 15.
Normally there is a clip on the connector situated between pin 15 and 16 whose function is to hold the connector securely in place. From here, navigate to pin 14 and use a short piece of wire to connect pins 14 and 15. If the power supply is plugged in and the power switch is in the on position, you will see the fan in the PSU spin up when you connect the two.

If you don't know the numbers; just connect green with GND(any black one)
Saw the thead was kinda out of date, but maybe someone has the same question.

the purpose of this would be to have a second psu that would power other hardware without needing to be plugged in to the mobo correct. I been looking at doing something like that but didnt know how to do so if you connect a green with any ground black wire it will power on??? and do i have a chance of frying myself crazy???

pins 13-14 or 14-15 will work....either side of green

cool, i guess i shall try and see what i can burn up or i mean turn up lol
if u are worried bout burning anything up then a relay switch prob be ur best bet, will allow you to booth two PSUs at once so you can give more go-juice to components
