On some forums and sites I have read that you shouldn't regulate a TEC with a PWM-system. What's the reason for this?
And what alternatives are there to regulate a TEC?

PWM regulation isnt too bad (although lots of people will disagree with me) as long as the regulation frequency is high enough.

The problem is the high thermal gradients when switching simply breaking the tec. Theyres a company out of china that make tecs specifically designed for pwm regualtion but they aint too cheap and the min order is chuffing huge.

In simple terms just buy a psu thats got a variable voltage, or if you want to keep above ambient all the time, just go for watercooling imo, although you could use a thermistor in a LM317 + TIP2955 type circuit to auto vary the output voltage depending on temperature, which should work well.

Wouldn't it work fine if the PWM has high frequency and there is capacitor in between to regulate the shape of voltage? (Act like resistivie circuit but more efficient that way?)
Just a thought.
