Hoping someone here might able to lend a hand in ascertaining the necessary pins to OC my mac mini.

I'm guessing here but is it just changing the muliplier of the chip? i.e. 166 *10 =1066 so 166 * 14 = 2324?

TIA

Well, here's the pinout:
http://www.intel.com/design/mobile/datashts/309221.htm
Go down to 4.2. There are three bsel pins, B22, B23, and C21. On 3.6, we have the fsb frequencies. Two of them are marked "Reserved".
Now open up the pentium D datasheet:
http://www.intel.com/design/Pentiumxe/datashts/310306.htm
Go to 2.7.1 and go down a page. The table shows that L H L is 200 mhz fsb.

So, shorting the BSEL 0 pin might overclock the fsb to 200 mhz. No one has tried yet I think. So, are you willing to bet your mac mini's cpu and motherboard on this working?

Couppi,

Thanks for the response! Yeah, I'll give it a whirl. Ive got a merom to drop in it if something should cook and 5 other minis behind it. I might like to try it with a merom too if all goes well with the yonah.

LHL Is what, voltage, as in Low high Low? And short BSEL 0 pin to what?

Forgive me if I'm being obtuse, just not real familar with the terminology and abrevs. I'd also like to try to understand and learn how to read these things - not that i dont trust you, but i want to be mad at myself when/if I cook something, if you know what i mean.

Mind if i sent you a PM?

H is disconnected
L is shorted to ground

I'm pretty sure you connect pins B22 and C22, but if someone can verify that's correct...

Please let us know if you are successful. I have a similar machine but am too chicken to try it myself. Thanks a bunch.

Hey, have you gotten around to doing this? I've got a mac mini, but I'm too chicken to try it out.

Well...1st attempt was unsuccessful. It yielded a flashing pwr led and nothing else. I got this same error flash when I had a stick of RAM that wasnt seated properly, so I'll tear it down and double check everything to see if that makes a difference. Unfortunately I used the last of my thermal paste doing this, so I'll have to go out and find some more.

I did a u wire socket mod to short pins B22 and C21 (BSEL 0 and BSEL 2) to change it from 166 L-H-H to L-H-L which should be 200.

If anyones got any suggestions in the meantime, please post 'em.

could also be a memory limiation. I don't think the memory runs 1:1, more likely 1:2. So you'd likely need PC2-6400. Unfortunately I don't think PC2-6400 SO-DIMM's exist.
