We have a slight problem here... in the middle of building a TEC rig and we just aren't getitng the temps we reckon we should be getting....

Epox 8RDA+
XP2100 B Core
1GB XMS3500
Meanwell s-320-12 PSU
226w TEC
Maze3-1 on CPU, Z-Chipset on NB, GPU Block on GPU (GF4 Ti46).
Eheim 1250 Pump.
All on 1/2" tubing.

UNDERclocked the chip to XP1500+ speeds at 1.5v and the Core still doesn't get down to the minus figures. It sits at 7 degrees. Water temp is a consistent 30 degrees using a Thermochill 3x120 rad with 3x Panaflos running at 12v on it.

Now, my XP2400+ when underclocked & undervolted by the same PERCENTAGE runs at -6 to -10 depending on ambients. This is the exact same cooling setup but on someone else's rig....

We've tried reseating all blocks etc, tried changing pelt, tweaked PSU... nothing seems to make a difference.

Any clues?

I personally have never seen a negative temperature reading on an Epos 8RDA+. Prometeia and Kryotech here read approximately +7.0 to +5.0 C with -35C on evaporator and -39C.

er.... mine happily reads -6 degrees... the Bios stops reading at 0 degrees, doesn't go into the minus', but MBM continues down lower happily and is FAIRLY accurate (have checked it against an independant probe.)

MBM on THIS rig gives us the same temp as shown in Bios, confirming as much as poss the suspected 7 degree core temp... don't have a probe to hand I can throw on it, which is a tad annoying but I was unprepared for this installation!

We're gonna head off home to my gaff soon to check all my water temps etc and compare to this rig's....

Hmm. I remember when I was reading on Swiftnets and because you have the socket filled with dilelectric grease and there is no airflow which it uses to find the temp, the temperatures will read higher then what they are.

s'ok, we've sussed it now... someone sent us a batch of 169w TECs mislabelled as 220w TECs...

Wouldnt have thought that would have made much difference when running underclocked with 1.5v since thats like 45-50watts of heat, unless the dT's are radically different which I doubt.

I did hear of a dodgy bunch of 220watt tecs that had dT's in the mid 40's tho.

My 8rda temp sensor cr@pped out a zero too, although it was massively inaccurate anyway it would read like 10degrees when my thermocouple was reading -8 (it mounted against the core)
