View Full Version : Vapochill?

Got a couple of questions about vapos. I've been given an oppertunity to pick up a second hand vapochill for about 270 USD (650/700 AUD), and had some questions about it.

1. How well does the vapo cope under 125 - 130watt heatloads? I intend on running an Athlon XP1600 i had previously in my watersetup at 1994 @ 2.2v (probably wont require voltage that high when i move to the vapo).
2. Are XP2100s better for overclocking then XP2100s? I've noticed on several performance systems that the XP2100s reach into the higher clock speeds better then the XP1600s (both AGOIA steppings).
3. How possible is it to gut the vapo case of the cooling equipment? I plan on either painting the Vapo a bright Green, or moving it to a more attractive case :)

Also, what sort of clock speed could i expect with a Voltage modification to my KX7, Samsung PC-2700 (good for 194 aggressive on my KR7A), and my XP1600 AGOIA (good for 1910 aircooled, or 1994 watercooled).

Thanks for the information blokes :)

Best thing to do is pm DDTUNG or JCViggen on this matter, if they don't see this thread. Both of these gentlman have experience with the Vapochill.:)

My vapochill can handle my XP running at 1.95 Ghz at 2v. and you're more than likly right, it won't require as much voltage with the Vapo.

It seems to me that the XP2100's seem to be the best overclockers around right now, in terms of highest clock speed that is (as opposed to % oc)

The vapochill unit is pretty easy to remove, as long as you take note of the wiring of the chill control unit. I just recently moved mine into a Lian Li case, and it looks pretty good if i do say so myself.

My biggest complaint, and its a very big complaint, is that it can be very difficult to align the evaporator head on the cpu properly. I've lost about 6-7 cpu's to my vapochill. :( And unfortunately, this isn't all too unheard of in the vapochill community. Last week I lost 2 cpu's and i've been working this weekend on figuring out the problem. So far in order to get good contact, i've had to remove the spaces in the brackets, and lap the evaporator head. Even after doing this, its still difficult to get good contact on the core - i'm worried about breaking off the tabs on the socket. I've been seating and reseating alot on a dead "practice" cpu and i get good contact about 1 of every 3 or 4 tries. But the ratio is getting better, I'm hoping i've got it under control.

My suggustion if you buy it: Get yourself a dead cpu or duron or something, and practice seating the evaporator, its much more troublesome than its worth. With those damn spacers, the evaporator didn't even reach the XP core i had, so that smoked my first one right away.... just be careful.

Hope this helps, and watch for pics of my case transfer in about a week :)

Interesting...

The friend of mine selling the Vapo has had no problems with it. I'll PM DD, and JC and get them to take a look here :)

I believe the Vapo is rated for maximum 105-110 watts.

You can gut the Vapo case. Some have put the cooling parts in a Lian Li 70.

XP2100 will give you higher maximum overclock, in general.

270$ is a good price, cant beat that.

A vapochill isnt very strong, but it should give you a nice overclock. You'll get CPU core temp readings in the 15-25°C range. Still, I've had an Athlon 2000+ running 3Dmark at 2104 MHz, thats pretty good still.

Thanks for the quick responses guys :)

More to think about :)

Kurupt, if you find you can't get it working, or don't have time to work with.... I'd love a chance at it. Keep me in mind should you need to pass it along down the way :)
