Do you need to keep that plate on, because mine gets very hot and then has problems like freezing and shut downs anybody leave theres off.

Yes you can remove it slowly using u thin knife under a corner.

That plate is a heat spreader and is intended to help cool the chips underneath it.
DO NOT REMOVE IT
In fact, some guys have seen a couple of mhz better OC's with a heat sink attached on top of it.
