Corsair Memory has an established reputation in the computer industry for
producing some of the best memory available and they are expanding their
product offerings to include PC power supplies.

The Corsair HX620W paper carton is not small in volume

In addition to the power supply and modular cables the packing box also
contains a power cord, wire ties and a printed User’s Manual.

The power supply arrived securely packed with large foam block. It seems
that this PSU is very well transporting protected from damage.

Here are a few pictures showing the layout and components inside the HX620
W power supply.

Use ADDA high-quality fan
The fan speed is automatically controlled by the internal component
temperature (speeds up as the combined load and temperature increases).

Under the general state, only several hundred rotates for the operation of the fan, nearly quiet and silent

It is not perhaps as accurate as ammeter that the host computer examines
the voltage by board itself, but the software tools will mainly observe the supply power steady in high power consumptive.

Await the standby state of ten minutes (whether right low picture, update once every 5 second )

Corsair HX620W Modular Power Supply

Strength
1. Ative PFC with high quality feel black baking paint
2. The modular cable design eliminates cable clusters and optimizes the
airflow inside the computer case to help keep the system cool.
3. Exquisite and securely packed, Corsair bag for cable.
4. Industrial grade Japan made capacitor.
5. Under the heavy loading state, the temperature of PSU is about more than
40 degrees
6. PSU offers the steady output even in heavy loading.
7. It is quiet in most condition due to the fan speed is automatically controlled by the internal component temperature.
8. The market price range from 160 to 170 dollars that mark down 10 to 20
than other famous PSU maker at same level product.
9. Backed by a 5-year warranty

Weakness
1. A little noisy at high power levels (Around 1,000 rpm)
2. The material of Cable can be improved.

Though Corsair just began to get into PSU field, the new products put out
blockbusting and not defeated by other old brand PSU factories high end
product. It also achieves good result at brand, price, feature, warranty, quiet
and thermal.

Windwithme believes the product without perfection in the world, but after
experiencing CorsairHX620W ,It’s a nearly perfect product, No doubt , there
is one more choice for user in the high end PSU market.

did you test with a multimeter or just windows tools?

These tests really need multimeter readings. :stick:

What is the claimed efficiency on the box or in the manual? Other than "high" :)

80% is typical minimum. There's a misprint in the manual that says "up to 80%" efficiency. It'll be fixed in future revisions of the manual.

Those internals look the same as the Seasonic S12 ;)

i'd also like to see the noise on each rail if you have a scope :)

Corsair HX 620 or Silencer 610?

Nice review, well laid out and informative...

Nice camera also

I agree a digi MM woulda been nice to see true results under load, but overall good work put forth..

SIMILAR?? :p:

while the review was ok, you cannot rely on the software to provide accurate readings for the rails, you need to fix that and make sure you have those readings from a DMM otherwise those readings are invalid, hope i did not come down hard and my english is understandable :)

is it me or does the internal quality look suspect?

Micutzu
09-09-2006, 11:11 PM
Internal quality is OK, electronics look very simple because that's the latest trend in high-efficiency PSU design. Compared to the half bridge topology that you can see on older designs such as the OCZ Powerstream for example, the forward converter topology used here is simpler but offers higher efficiency, higher MTFB and has lower manufacturing cost.

Seasonic.. :

SIMILAR?? :p:

They're not the same ... my guess it's either a modified verison of the Seasonic M-12's electronics, or some FSP electronics.

Corsair HX 620 or Silencer 610?
don't know how much for the silencer 610 but for the money i'm liking the thermaltake toughpower 700 modular..

always wanted a seasonic though so this corsair might fulfill that desire

But yes a mulitmeter would defiantly help to show stability of rails under load conditions

Componenst shots looks like wannabe PS which a common relabelled OEM stuff.

For value power supply multimeter is enuf, but for this thing with that price, scope especially in transient respond is mandatory and true efficiency measurement & temperature respond as well.
