hey guys,
i got a problem with my X2 4800+.

First my system:
AMD X2 4800+ 0601UPMW
DFI Lanparty Expert Newest Original BIOS
2x 1GB Samsung UCCC (pretested @ 280MHz with 3-4-4-8 2,6V)
wd raptor 74GB sata
wd caviar 320GB ide
benq DVD-Burner
seasonic s12-600W

ok the problem is that i can't set some multiplier+htt settings

i tested some combinations:
12x 230HTT won't boot, hangs after "backup cmos"
10x 260HTT will work

12x 235HTT won't boot
10x 270HTT will work

12x 240HTT won't work
10x 280HTT will work

i tested 4 different bios versions, ram dividers, memtest +86, different vcores, vdimms, timings

could it be that my new 4800+ is damaged or is the board bad?? before i got he 4800+ i had an opteron 146 pretested as 3000MHz @ 1,42V and i couldn't oc it too, i reached 2800Mhz with 1,45V an no ram divider worked with the opteron....

sorry my bad english, i'm from germany but in my "home-forum" nobody could help me....

does anyone got an idea??

Do you tried other multi than 10X and 12X?

yes the 11x multi works also fine, but why won't a 4800+ work with 12x an htt above 200???

What have you tried in between?
What's your max CPU?
What voltages are you running?
How do you know the memory settings are correct?

12x230 needs a lot of Vcore (1.61) and a lot of cooling here.

i didn't try between these settings because i want to OC to full MHz like 2600 oder 2700 nott 2734MHz.....
The Max CPU i have tested yet is 10x 280 1,47V
also 10x 260 @ 1,39 worked fine and stable...

my cooling is a TT sonic tower with one 120mm fan, load temps are about 50-52 with 2800MHz

but i don't understand whats the difference between 10x 280 and 12x 240??? the ram should like the lower htt or not??

and my ram is tested as 280MHz with 3-4-4-8 @ 2,6V, i bought them pretested and tested them myself this settings

Whenever I try to make big jumps in OC, I end up having to go back and work my way up in steps. Seeing what's failed where and how I can fix it to move on.

10x280 is 2800 and 12x240 is 2880. A big difference to the CPU.
If you mean 12x230, I got that to work here. My hurdles were memory timings (got some help from OCZ's forum), memory voltage and CPU voltage. I didn't try lower multipliers because my memory isn't fast enough and I wanted to run 1:1.

I'm surprised that 10x280 booted and 12x230 did not. Is 10x280 stable? (Will it prime in both cores for 8 hours -- custom torture test using most of your memory?)

I'd go to DFI street's 939 discussion thread and ask there. Those guys are very good at squeeking the last Hz out of these CPUs. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10196

Also, do you know what rev your MB is? The experts have a history of underreporting the CPU temperature. I underclocked (all the way down to 400 Hz) and undervolted and compared my water temperature at the CPU block exit to the reported temperature. My AA0 was off by at least 10C and my AC1 seems to be off by only 2C.

my revision is an old one and i set temperatur in bios +10 but anyway i use coretemp for checking temperatur.

i don't think the problem is that 12x 230 oder 12x 240 is too much for the 4800+. i think my cpu or mainboard got a problem with overclocking an the 12x multiplier, but why??

but i will test some lower MHz steps and ask the guys @ dfi-street

thx for helping
