I am wanting to upgrade to the conroe chip, probably the E6700, and I wouls also like to go with an ASUS nForce 590 motherboard when they come out. My question is, will the current memory I have be sufficient, or should I upgrade as well? Currently I have:

Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2PT 2GB Kit DDR400 XMS3200 Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader

Thanks for any input :)

You can't use DDR with 590 I believe, you need DDR2.

You are correct NiCKE^, that DDR memory will not work on any nForce 590 Mobo mostly because it is a DDR2, not a DDR controller.
Any of these memory modules will work just fine however

but if you want max performance get DDR2-800 or Highier memory

Is it worth $140 to get the 1066 over the 800?

This memory will perform quite well for you

Should overclock to 1066 with minimal work

I suppose a better question would be: How noticable would the performance gain be in a gaming enviorment with 1066 versus 800?

I don't mind spending the extra money for the 1066 as long as I will be able to benefit from it in a noticable fashion.

hmmm natalia hablas espaƱol?

i wouldnt get asus 590

you wont get a big boost from 800 to 1066, best thing you can do is to overclock you cpu and memory with a e6700 you should be able to get 3.4-3.5GHz without much trouble on air.

Yo hablo un poco Espanol.

Unfortunately my last name is Ramirez, but my dad never taught me much Spanish... go figure :p

Why wouldn't you get a ASUS 590?

I have two SLI cards right now and would like to keep them, and a ASUS 590 seems the best option.

And sounds like everyone is agreeing not to get the 1066 memory then, just to overclock the 800. Hehe, that sorta makes me nervous but seems like there are enough threads here to walk me through it.

Seems that the 590 isn't all bad if you are going the 6800 and open multi. Beyond that, yep it's outdone by the 975.

How so?

Also, the 590 is the only option for true SLI support right?

Honestly..it's all about drivers. SLi WILL work on 975, it's just not liscenced. In light of the whole AMD/ATI situation, maybe this will change.

There's a few ASUS Nforce4 board that support SLI. P5N32...32x SLi.or something. there's the WS version of the ?same? board as well, but i dunno whether it actually supports SLi or just multi-monitor. Pretty sure you could mod it tho, seeing how it's nf4 too.
