PS3 'to last 10 years' - does anyone else somehow doubt that?

10 years could be the time that sony has to take to dig its self out of the hole they seem to be putting themselves in with the ps3.

Its going to take 3 years for it to break even financially on the unit.

As for "10 years" comments. We're nearing the 10th anniversary of PS1 ;)

The only problem with that is. Both AMD and Intel will has multiprocessor tech out by 2010/2012 with > four cores on one die, and GPUs will be on the dual core route...so yea, PS3 will be POS3 by 2016.

The original playstation on the other hand is just over 10 years...But its more of an antique

I have a PS1. Didn't care much for PS2 (went gamecube) so I have little importance for how long thats going to last :p

Very possible. The hardware used in the console is more than enough to keep it running games that will release 10 years from now. If you look at the PS2 specs and the graphics they produce, it is quite amazing (300mhz cpu, 32mb ram...) and it has lasted for 6 years. And the blu-ray will equip it for future upgrades to the media used for the consoles, on the other hand the 360 will need to be upgraded with a blu-ray drive.

It will last 10 years as in it wont decompose sitting in someone's closet ...
