A fellow of mine tried the mount an Intel 940D in the Gigabyte DS3 and GSkill HZ 2Gb PC6400 (those D9s..). But stranglely doesnt boot at all.

He had to switch to Gskill NS and then to NR and none of them booted.

Then he switched to 5400LA so he could boot. anyone had this problem? I am very concerned cause I already bought the Gskill PC6400 and the Giga DS3...

i hear about some problems with elpida chips and 965p chipset, and the
G.Skill ZX kits have Elpida chips?!

btw, i am waiting on my DS3 and 2GBHZ Kit ;)

Thanks for verifying that. My 8000UL will be very happy. Well, maybe not that happy with the measly 2.5v this mobo allows (or is it 2.45v?)

We found the problem. It is causing by the Gigabyte bios auto detection. It boots DDR800 CL4 ram up with CL3. There is no way to boot CL3 up at DDR2 800 and also with 1.8v.

If you have ram that using CL5, I would suggest use that to boot up the motherboard and set your bios at CL4 on DDR2 800. Save the bios and swap to 2GBZX. That will solve the problem. However, this problem is actually causing by Gigabyte bios not the

So basically my Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 and this memory won't work??

2GB ZX kit with 0605 batch, will G.SKILL help resolve the problem and consult with Gigabyte on a bios update?

What can i do?...if i can't boot with the memory and can't flash bios and don't have any other DDR2 modules...what can i do?

Can i swap my unused ZX kit with another set?

ya, newegg doesnt charge restocking fee with unopened box rma. I suggest getting the team memory from tankguys.com instead (check bandwidth forum).

Go buy some ram at best buy, use it to post and change the ram setting so that hopefully the G.Skill ram will post now, and then return the other ram to best buy.

Does this problem only affect the DS3? What about the DS4 and DQ6?

Well if Gigabyte is not going to fix it, then all of the ram with SPD 400 CL4 will not boot up. Currently we don’t know when does Gigabyte going to fix it. However I believe they will fix it soon. Since there are a lot of DDR2 800 CL4 memory. We are going to change SPD to CL5 at 800. that will solve the problem too but user need to adjust the timing by themselves.

I think most people buying g.skill know to set their own timings anyway so a wise move.

I hope my 6400 HZ boots up on my new DQ6, i dont have any other DDR2.

CL3 1.8v for 90% of MT chip is no problem to boot up. however we did find some MT chip for 800 2GBHZ can't not boot.
it is mistake by Gigabyte.... so our SPD can't not burn as 400 CL4...
we are going to change CL5...... no good cuz there will be a lot of user misunderstand about the CAS when they read the SPD
like what happened to DDR500 2GBHZ 3-5-5-10

Could users please report their experience of using G.SKILL DDRII 800 memory with the Gigabyte 965P motherboards.

If you don't have a spare DDR2 module you are in trouble!...it won't boot and you can't flash to a later bios.

Maybe G.SKILL could repragram the SPD for it to have a CL5 value?

yes we can do that. change the value to CL5, and that is what we are going to do. however, becasue the bios issue and all of the SPD can not set at CL4.. that just not right. we are discuss with Gigabyte and hope they can fix it

btw we don't have problem for P5B

also we can reprogram the SPD if already purchased

fill out the RMA form and return to rma@gskill.com
we will reprogram for you

question

default system settings for Conroe/allendale CPUs is 266MHz*multiplier

the RAM should be able to handle 266MHz CAS3 right 1.8v?

dinos22

HZ works fine for me on Gigabyte DS3 with Allendale

Lestat

i got the ZX kit for my DS3 and i can report the same issue.
no boot because of 1 thing. and this is an easy thing to prove.
the default vdimm on all of the Gigabyte boards is 1.9v

this has NOTHING!! to do with CAS 3. NOTHING. infact even dropping the FSB to 200mhz or less the ram STILL will NOT boot at CL3 at no time does this ram boot at CL3. its all about the voltages.
if that was the case then i'd love to have anyone of you explain to me WHY when i change the voltage to 2.2 and boot it boots with CL4 ?

your comments of the system booting to CL3 are false and unfounded.
not only that the ram will not boot at CL4 800 unless its given 2.2v NOT 2.0- or 2.1 as the label claims.
it wont even boot at 2.1 @ ddr667 ? someone care to explain that to me ?

the fact is and still is that this ram needs 2.1 or higher to boot.

my kit wont boot on anything less than 2.2v. that is +.04 in the bios vdimm and EVERYTHING for SPD left on Auto.
once i do that i can boot into windows where every tool known to the community reports the ram running at 4-4-4-12 and thats Auto SPD

i need to know how Gskill wishes to handle this as every conroe board available uses 1.9v as its defualt vdimm. (out of the ones i know of)

i just got it today and am i to be expected to send this ram back to you after less than 8 hours of testing ? infact if i so desired i would catagorize this as non working and non compliant.
i see no reason to do that, i expected to have a working product and gskill knew about these issues and yet still sell them as they are.

will the DS3 work with (G.Skill 1GB 800MHz DDRII NR Series) without BIOS flash? i think it is CL5 timing.
