Smizack - just wondering what you use Linux for? I was tempted to get the Mandrake gaming edition and completely move of wind blows but it wont do all my games and the ones it does most have probs

i got myself suse to have a muck about with and its a really good OS but just doesnt do the gaming, imagine 3dmark scroes on linux its a hell of a lot faster and therefore higher scores ;)

I wouldn't consider linux any faster for graphics..... :-)

I use WinXP Pro, RH8.0, Mandrake 9, Rh7.3, Longhorn Build 4008, and 2k Pro and Server.

CCW

sorry wdd1040, out of interest, why wouldnt you consider linux faster for graphics?

Thanks,

I would stick it totally and solely on being driver compatibility, availability, and performance. I just don't see, with what we have for drivers ATM, Linux performing any sort of good framerates.

CCW
03-10-2003, 08:33 AM
however in an ideal world with golod driver support for linux it would be kicking serious a***!

I just use it to learn about it. We have some servers running it, so that's about it.

If they ever get Wine working 100%, I'll switch completely off of windoze.

same here, no more licensing and linux can be installed on as many comps as you want, shame its not more newb friendly because if more people wanted to use it theyd amke it better!

Win98SE on my main computer and on my laptop. (98SE is the best!)

Windows XP SP1 upstairs on the family computer.

98SE on my grandparents' PC.

PocketPC 2002 on my e740.

I have tried Win2K on my main pc, but there have been numerous driver and software problems from 98. Plus, I get higher benchmarks and game frame rates in 98SE.

Linux is ok but it's not designed for everyday use, at least not for gaming. Most company also run windows soft and not linux because sometimes the admin makes changes in the os that only him knows about and can use, so when he's fired you have to sart back from scratch

Hate to say it, but without me my current employer's systems would go downhill fast. Before I was there, the systems were in sad shape.
