Hey guys, Well I have 2 new hdd's in my RIG now. One is the Western Digital 80GB 8MB Special Edition HDD. The other is the Maxtor 80GB 8MB hdd. Here's how they are setup.

WD is the MASTER w/ NTFS and 2 Partitions.

Maxtor is SLAVE w NTFS and 1 Partition.

My scores w/ sisoft file system benchmark the

Western Digital get's 31545 kb/s
- sequential read - 46 mb/s
- sequential write - 44 mb/s

Maxtor gets 37875 kb/s
- sequential read - 57 mb/s
- sequential write - 55 mb/s

I thought the Western Digital was suppose to be better and get pretty much the same results, the only thing i've noticed different is that the Maxtor is ATA133 and not ATA100 like the WD but I still hear bout how they score in the 50's just like my MAXTOR, what are your suggestions?

Well after reading about reviews for both drives I have, looks like the results I have are correct. Kind of dissapointed in the WD.

I use HD Tach 2.61 and Atto, pretty much all the time. They work fine for telling my HDD performance.

Are both those drives empty? And the partitions tested equal distance from the rim of the drive. I thinjk the maxtor will shade it slightly but from the benchs I would bet your booting off the WD and with sandra they need to be equal to get a accurate comparison of the drives.
