Hi,

I have a problem for a little while. When I run HD tach on my 160gb WD drive, it give me a 20.3 ms access time.

I have tried every diag soft, no error. I deleted the partition, remade it (full format) I even did a low level format, still have the same speed.
This drive have a single partition.

This 20.3ms is simply strange and I have no idea what wrong. WD wouldn't want to RMA it if there is no error reported by their software. (and the drive keep all data, the problem is only the access time)

Anyone have an idea ?

thanks

Just looked with HD Tune. The Automatic Acoustic Management is enabled.

I found post sugesting using an Hitachi software to disable it. but when I use it, I see it disabled already...

any idea ?

download ulitimate boot cd, google it.

run that, then goto hard drive disk tools, and goto the ones for western digital, look for AAM management, and set it to perfomance mode.

having AAM turned on and set to quiet mode reduces seek noise by reducing the speed of head travel.

I looked with the ultimate boot disk (I use that disk for a while) no WD apps let me change the AAM. the Hitachi one let me change it, but as I said, it don't improve anything.
