hey guys,
I got my SLK-800 yesterday, I lapped it and all.. looks nice. the base was crap though when I first got it. Anyway, I saw a post awhile ago discussing whether or not to use the feet on the bottom. I do want the best cooling however I don't want to crack my chip (2100+ AIUHB 0302). would putting them on decrease cooling a lot?

Thanks in advance,
Terro

Use the feet. Mine cools great with them. It seems to me that it would be very easy to chip or break the core without them.

I've installed with and without the feet. No recognizeable difference in cooling.

But, as strong as the clip is, I don't really see how the feet would help if you slipped up in the installation. That strong clip is a great feature, really "marries" the HSF to the CPU. Not as good as a well-torqued bolt system but good.

i installed the slk800 w/out the feet but however used a copper generic shim. so basically wouldn't cause the core to crack. yuo can do it that way; i get terrific temps.

I use the pads and the cooler works great... Idle temp on my 1700+ (stock speed) is LESS than 30C!

I have the same chip and cooler, I never bothered with the silly little feet stuff.

there should be no noticable difference between having the pads on or off. They go in a different area than the proc pads so its even.

I used them and it cools great.:)
