See review below ... RAID 0 and none RAID tests ... In the end (my quick look) RAID 0 made up of 74GB raps would be quite a bit faster than a lone 150GB.

I have 2 74's in RAID 0 and I love it. It's FAST! Not really so much for loading games but installing apps is quick and the overall OS feels more responsive. Plus with the fact that you can get 16mb cache 74gb raptors for the same price the 8mb cache model costed, it's a better choice.

It's really only loud when it's writing to disk. Seeking isn't so loud, except if it's spinning up after being turned off.

Its not just extra cache, they are re-designed. I think the newer disks are substancially better than the old ones (theres only so much better they can be obviously).

I think this is a great review, because it doesn't just focus on pure HD-performance, but the "real-life" performance-impact as well.

I just went out to Newegg to price out the 74GB Raptors, and the Raptor WD740ADFD model (new revision with 16MB cache) costs $170! You can get the 150GB model for about $210. I don't know what happened to the pricing on the 74GB Raptors, but that is enough to push me to get the single 150GB model and forget RAID 0. Then again, maybe I get two of those...

maybe thats the plan, so u just end up spending more money:nono:
i would go with the 150 cheaper more space and ease
although 2 74gb should be a bit faster

You can always buy another 150GB and connect them to RAID0 when you'll have money of course ;)

Def. 2x 74G vs 1x150 if both are 16MB models.

Wow Prives on teh 150's have really cme down as well..

I paid about way too much for mine a few months ago.

2 74's w/16mb would be faster, b ut I always prefer larger drives when possible. Can always pickup another 150 gb later! 150gb is not really all that much space..rvrn for a bootable drive, where you always want a large portion of the drive to be free for performance reasons.

WD740ADFD vs. WD1500ADFD both in RAID0 with NVIDIA controller. Same mobo's but as you can see from the WD1500's results they had a Opteron 170 at 2.7 (hence CPU utilization lower), the WD740's had a Opteron 148 at 2.75.
