So I need a 30k ohm variable resistor. I can't find any that high at Radioshack. THey do have 10k ohm VRs though. Can I wire up 3 togehter in series? Would that equal to 30k ohm?

Yes, your asumption is correct. ;) Go ahaead and connect 3 potentiometers in series. The best is that it gives more precision than a single potentiometer, which means that tweaking the voltage to the exact level is easier with more than one potentiometer. BUT, I just had a look at the radioshack site and nearly fell off my chair after seeing the price of one 10K cermet trimmer. They are way too expensive there. Normally one trimmer should be at least half that price, if not lower.

Yup I just tried it and it works. ;)
Yea, it's like $0.50 for one online, but placing a $0.50 order is kinda blagh.
