Ok, im thinking about getting a Core2Duo. my first thoughts are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 £139.82
ASUS P5WD2-E Premium i975X £133.35 (will it work?) (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=348290)
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 (2x1GB) £117.44

Now i dont have a big budget, if one at-all, what do you think to them specs? is there anything i can get cheaper? is there anything better and cheaper than them?

thanks

I'm in the same boat as you (I have the same mem) but am waiting for a decent Matx motherboard and ofc a conroe chip.

Someone was pimping this mobo earlier:

http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=321920

It lets you use DDRI, which is nice and cheap.

Man that's a bargain. I wonder how it is overclock-wise.

Yeah, that mobo has the Intel 965 chipset, which supports Conroe.

If you want a decent overclock with the low multi of the E6300, it might be wise to get a cheap ddr2-800 kit.

there is a big ongoing discussion about that board and no one knows its rather silly to ask since each mobo is different and ram and cpu... no 2 things will be the same.

go look at the DS3 thread and see what they are kinda sorta doing.. its a mixed bag right now.. but even mixed for a 140 dollar board id get it.

dollar for dollar clock for clock its the best board to get right now.
even if it only hits 400mhz fsb its 140 bucks and many of the $250 P5W DH baords are only hitting 400~425. i know mine hits a wall at 410 it just wont go 1mhz more. but mine also has alot of other bad issues right out of the box.
thats why i ordered a DS3
