I just gt a 3700+ for my secondary computer and thought to my self. "would'nt an overclocked 3700+ to 2.8 be the EXACT SAME , as an FX 57 minus the unlocked multiplers on the FX series.

Correct me if Im wrong.

I did, running @ 3Ghz on air atm with 1.5v (300 x 10) atm and it's stable (rosetta for long periods)

I have an OC'd 3700+ and I have it set to 2.86GHz - 260 x 11 @ 1.5v on air.

What kinda HSF do you lads both have? I was going to use my Zalman CNPS9500 from my 4400 now WC, But I wanna use it to OC my 1.6 server.

Anything around $30-40 is a good price, I was thinking zalman 7000

I didn't push my 3700+ too far. Just to 2.78 @ 1.55v. I used a Thermalright XP-120 with a free Thermaltake fan i got. Pushed a lot of air, but was really loud. Worked really nicely too. I'm sure you can find one for cheap.

the 3700+ is pretty easy to oc. get a good fan like big typhoon or ninja and you'll be at 2.8 easily

yaddam205, I have the zalman cnps9500 on my chip with the fan speed set around 1650 RPM, it goes up to full automatically if the temp gets over 46*C which it has rarely gotten to and only in a really warm room.

Reinvented you said that you don't really have your 3700 pushed but 1.55v seems awefully high for 2.78GHz. Is it not stable at 1.5v or lower?

zalman 7000 is not very affective and withh 10bux more you can get ninja!

Just before I do and buy this when my 3700 comes in, will the ninja be too big for the A8R-MVP? In terms of the memory I know with large HSF's some block the 1st dimm slot, will i have this problem with the ninja and my A8R-MVP?

here are some pics if it helps...

The memory controller on the FX is probably stronger than the 3700...just another observation...

I have used (And still do) an Artic Cooling Freezer pro (64). Keeps idle temps @ 35/36c and load around 44/45c (Ambient around 27/28c)

not necessarely when looking at the 3700 B3 obmc (e.g. KAB3E). they hate the cold but are generally stronger on air compared to FX57s on air.

Excellent to see, but with the FAN? I am going to put the FAN on the side of the tower where the memory is..... will that block it?

i've a 3700+ KACAE 0552 FPDW. It's a good CPU to oc ;)

Unfortunately my stepping has got a coldbug. I need ~+20°C for 300htt+. :(
(I use Ricky-Tweak+2nd Heatspreader between Evap and the A64 IHS :D )

My Results,so far:

2900mhz @ 1.39V with boxed cooler
3271mhz @ 1.65V with Vapochill LS (super pi 32M stable)
3400mhz(11x309) @ 1.76V with Vapochill LS (Super pi 1M stable, so far )
