View Full Version : Voltage (Opteron 165) Cpu-z quite far off of bios.

In my ultra-d I set the CPU voltage to 123% x 1.3v = 1.599v. However, CPU-Z reads out @ 1.536 which is quite a bit off. Which should I trust? I want to keep my cpu at or below 1.6v which I've heard is safe for water, but that is what I've set in the bios. If cpu-z is correct though, I guess I'd push it in the bios until it reaches 1.6ish in cpuz.

Ideas, Advice?

Thanks!

Matt

It's possible that window based software report wrongly voltages sometimes, I've seen it before. However, try and open cpuz.ini with notepad and changing the number next to VCore= to a number from 0 to 3. Change it, then run CPU-Z to see if the voltage is right. If it isn't, then change the number again until it works out. Might be a long shot :)

So you're that CPU-Z is probably wrong?

Well I haven't had much experience with CPU-Z so I can't confirm it is wrong or not, but at first glance the bios seems to be a more accurate source :yepp:

I have an ultra-d and it also shows vcore lower than what I set in bios. I would trust bios more than any software though. Or you could measure your voltage with a dmm to know for sure.

Thanks for that, pretty cool little "trick."

FWIW, I have an Ultra D and with my vCore set to 1.475 in BIOS, in CPU-Z, it reads about 1.425 or so at full load. If I remember correctly, the voltage reads a little higher if I'm at idle...

I have mine set @ 1.458 in bios......cpu-z reads 1.42......with my DMM I get 1.491:eek:

I have experience with both CPU-Z and DFI Ultra-Ds...

For me, the CPU-Z was always off by a certain ratio. No matter what vcore I was using, it would always read X% lower in CPU-Z. It was ALWAYS the same so I didnt worry about it much...
