This is beta driver with 7900/7600/7300 support, but not with 7950GX2 support.
This is unoffical driver and you can try to run SLi on any chipset at your own risk.
The archive size is about 13MB: http://steffbard.com/drv/85.96_mod.exe

1. The driver works perfect: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4862834
screen: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/4470/015zk.gif
But I had some problems with use of the driver, for example in SLi-mode I had the monitor image from the second card.
I have no time to check up this driver completely.

2. I have opened access to this driver only for some days (2-3), then I shall delete it from server.

3. The place for PM is limited by 500 messages. I am tired to clean it.
I don't have so much time to answer all.
Excuse me in advance, but I shall not answer any more those messages which not contains nothing except for words - give me !.

Yes, but while it does not work properly and it's early to speak about results. It will be checked up completely before publishing results in any case.

I saw on akiba pc's site, somebody enabled quad sli with 91.31 driver and 2*7950GX2 (I think no intel chipset). Can this be true?

Yes, It can be the truth even on Intel a chipset. I think that everybody saw it: http://www.tbreak.com/forums/showthread.php?p=266475#post266475

Simply I studied not at the necessary school in the childhood and I am too silly to receive the necessary result quickly. LoL :D

Thanks alot Big Sam but i have a little problem and need some help of you

I have a system below

Asus P5WD2
Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz
2x 6600GT @ SLI (after installed Big Sam's driver)
1GB RAM

My PSU is 530W, when i play games like 15 mins, my pc automatically restart, only when SLI is enabled, game does apprear nicer, better, but i got pc restart as well in less than 20 mins

Is my PSU 530W enough for both Pentium Dual Core & SLI running at a time ?

Please help ;) thanks

if its a sli certified power supply yes if not then that could be your problem
could also be they are overheating ? make sure your case has good airflow

My PSU is 530W but its not saying anything like SLI READY because its not a Cooler Master PSU, it just a china PSU i bought at $20 (530W)

I reall need an idea before im goin to buy a new PSU, should I buy ? I love SLI, and if i buy, how much W is needed ? Cooler Master 450W or 500W or 550W ?

Thanks

I've been trying all day, and I got it to recognize the 7950gx2 as compatible, but and it installs via the setup program, but it doesn't work. When i try from device manager, it just says incompatible with XP. I even tried mixing and matching parts of files from the 91's with them and still no go. Care to point me in the right direction?

Principle of work SLi for 7900 and for 7590 absolutely different.
It is impossible to force to work 7950 on 8XXX the driver as correct image. It's useless to replace files 8XXX the driver on 91XXX and on the contrary, their contents is absolute miscellaneous. :(

I have "revision" of such driver where SLi-control panel does not work, but actually SLi mode is enable. :) There can be many variants :) It can be found out precisely having looked the win registry.

7900GT will work without problems.

Hi Big_Sam

any way you can fix some win 64 bit nvidia driver to run sli on intel chipset.

Recently already someone asked me about it and I looked in such driver, it differs from usual 32bit and consequently at once I can not make such moding. Besides it should be tested, and I never was interested Win-64bit and at all I have no it.
The most sad that again for this work is necessary a lot of time which is not present. And if I find a free time I spend it on 91ХХ.

I do compare original and modded control panel file and seems like you make no any changes in code section. All that I find is replacing resources (pics and text strings) at the end of file and crc-correction in the beginning. So, driver with modded nv4_mini.sys file, but original control panel will work?

In 87XX, in nv4_mini, except for recalculation of the common check sum of a file, there is a check of integrity of a code inside a file. I do not know how it is made. It is useless to make changes to a file .

965 cards du not suport sli

965 cards du not suport sli

LoL :D

Why ?

945 and 955 can support with moded drivers, but 965 cant ?

I can say more... if you install something like 91.37, there is a chance to run SLi on 945, 955 and 965 without any mods. (but not on 975)

maverik-sg1
08-19-2006, 04:56 AM
The reason why 965 chipset dont support sli is because the PCI-E Lanes are two different bandwidths (x4 and x16) nothing to do with software just hardware.

There is no difference between 945 955 and 965 all of them have PCI-E 16x + 4x and on all it is possible to run SLi :D

It will be more slowly than 8x + 8x but will work :D

Excited to receive my E6600 and P5W DH tomorrow, off work on Wed / Thurs so I had CPU RAM MB overnighted @ 75$ shipping :-( Was debating for 3 days straight on biting and getting X6800 with P5N32-SLI to get true SLI support however found too many 3.4-3.7ghz X6800 owners and I just can't justify that much money when E6600 is performing almost the same speed.

Replacing my X2 4400+ @ 2.68 was not going to upgrade but 2 friends using Core 2 Duo @ 3ghz and they don't have to set affinity and game plays flawless without patches, CPU drivers etc etc that AMD needed and still had problems.

Anyone find any issues running this 85.96 driver? Anyone know if someone will hack a newer 91.31 series driver for use and if Nvidia and Intel are somehow partnered why disable the SLI support if the hardware works fine?

Running 2x7900GTX boards can someone please send me the drivers PM me if you have time.

Thank you

Pentium777: nvidia and intel have nothing to do with eachother...

Its the fact that to run SLI and to run Crossfire it is practically the same hardware setup...

The part that says yes you can do SLI or no you cant to SLI is completly software related,
So when someone edits the software drivers so it skips that check then you can use SLi on a normally software disabled crossfire board (hope that made sense!)

Someone please send me the drivers, and i can host them on my home server!!! (25kb upload but better than nothin!)

Makes perfect sense, I did not know the PCIE slots and Crossfire / SLI was basically the same hardware chipset figured that the board's chipset needed to have some type of hardware support.

Not much of a choice for overclockers of this excellent Conroe chip right now, P5N32-SLI SE DLX would be in my system if it wasn't a bad overclocker, so since there isn't even a NV590 board that supports conroe out I'm left with only one choice the P5W DH so I can get the best performance out of my E6600.

Hope someone can give that modded driver by tomorrow or I'll be running on single 7900 GTX @ 2560x1600 :-(

Thanks in advance

My question is guys, to run SLI on a Bad Axe mobo do you NEED the SLI BRIDGE? And where do you buy these separately?

NickS
08-23-2006, 11:27 PM
Froogle SLi bridge and look for a flexible universal one. :)

Seolfor
08-24-2006, 07:15 AM
The flexible SLI bridge that NickS is talking about is the Super Micro AOC-SLIB. The reason that a flexible one is so great is because different motherboards might space their pci-e slots differently.

edit: To answer peteypete271's question about NEEDING the SLI bridge, the answer is "yes and no" (http://www.ocworkbench.com/2005/nvidia/Forceware%2077.72/p1.htm). So, "yes" if you're looking for the best performance and "no" since it's not mandatory.

It seems to me that this problem not in the driver.
Did you try to run all on default settings? (CPU and memory)
If you can run SuperPi 32M on 400 x 9, it does not mean that system will be stable in 3D programs.

Interesting problem noobzed. I ran into a similar problem last night.

Im running a E6400 on a D975XBX with the 85.96 drivers. I do have an sli bridge and I had been running my cpu o/c to 2.66. I have a pair of BFG 7900GT's and while SLI enabled very easily - My system locked up on the 1st cpu test of 3dmark 05 and after that I could not get any other benchmark to run except briefly 3dmark 01 - but the performance was terrible - freeze frames during the initial 3d test and an eventual lock up.

I am running 2gb of XMS DDR2, a single raptor HDD and a single optical drive. All of this is powered by an Ultra 550w SLI ready psu.

I took the o/c off the cpu and return everything to default, but it didnt seem to improve anything.

Now the question I have is this...

I was running a single 7900GT o/c'd to 550/775. When I installed the 2nd card, windows prompted me for a driver install - and I think it installed the 85.96 drivers again as they show in the program manager for both cards and sli is still an option. However when I went into the nvidia desktop manager to look at my o/c options - they were gone. I reinstalled coolbits and noted that everything now shows stock speed - but it only gives options for one card. How can I be sure both cards are at stock speed?

Seems I read here that if you have cards at different speeds this type of lock-up can happen.

My plan is to remove the sli bridge and turn off sli. Then run my benchmarks. If I understand things correctly - this should then run off of just one of the cards. Is this correct?

If all is well then I intend to attemp an sli run with both cards in sli without the bridge and see what happens.

Anyone have any other thoughts? Anyone know how to get coolbits to o/c both cards?

Just curious.

Interesting note...

Based on what you said big sam I went looking at the PSU... Mine is SLI rated, but an article I read indicates that a minimum of 35A needs to be provided on the +12v rails. Mine has 35, but only 35.

You think that with o/c CPU and GPU's more might be better? Could this be why my system is failing in 3d applications?

Z

ps... the same article indicated my system had enough wattate - 471 was the peak wattage required and I have 550 - but the amperage might be a factor as I only have min specs...

Yes, it can cause falling of system.
I can tell more. At absence of PSU power the reason of falling of system can be pulsations of input voltage. Sometimes turning on of a refrigerator on kitchen can cause reloading of computer in such conditions. I checked. :D

You try multimeter for the control voltages and try to remove the case from PSU and check up temperature of radiators. Overheating is possible.

zdogjones

Before I tear the whole thing apart I think I will mess with some of the other things that I have to do.

I agree on the over heating thing... in the XBX those pci slots are very close together.

Anyone with SLI running on the XBX want to swap some system specs? Im curious about the cooling part...

Thank you all!

More power is obviously better. I saw that 18x4 psu too and it looked good, but when I checked Nvidia's site, the 17a + 18a should be ok for GT cards. If you are doing 2x GTX cards the list of approved PSU's is smaller.

Im doing 2x GT cards and my PSU is listed on their site as having ample power to drive my cards so I am inclined to believe that its not a power problem I am having.

I did find it interesting that w/o the bridge your 3dmark finished. Are you certain it was running in SLI mode? 34k seems kinda low for your system with 2 GTX cards... or GT for that matter. My system will do 38k with one GT card clocked at 550/775 and an E6400 @ 2.66. Im thinking that sli for my system should be 45-55k...

Hey, I want to thank Big_Sam(for introducing the SLI driver) and BarboneNet(for rehosting the SLI driver). I'm now able to run Oblivion at the highest quality without the graphics stuttering all over the place. :D

Hopefully, nVidia will release the official ones soon, but this one is better than what I expected and will definitely do the trick until that time.

System specs:
Intel d975xbx
P4@3ghz(soon to be replaced by the e6600)
2xEVGA 7900 GT KOs in SLI
2x1gb G.Skill@667mhz
2x250gb WD SataII in Raid0
X-Fi Fatal1ty
Sony DVD+/-DL 16x
Antec NeoHE 550w

First I'd like to thank Big Sam for this driver. I have it installed & its working perfectly. My 3DMark06 scores are around the same as my previous system, but I do understand that benchmarking will not be a strong point for a modified driver. All I want is good fps in games for now, and thats what I'm getting.

noobzed,

I had same problem using the asus flex bridge. Try flipping it, solved the problem for me:D

Anyone try these on an ASUS P5B Deluxe yet?

As far as your 3DMark scores go, I'm experiencing the same thing. Futuremark seems to be really finicky when it comes to the drivers that are being used...either that or we may be doing something wrong. SLI is definitely working in regular games though.

i think my issue come from psu

i use one card this night run looping denchs 3dm01 no freeze , no black screen, running for 10 hours

when i put he 2nd card, without changing a setting, goes to black screen

sounds like psu limitation
What SLI Bridge are you using? Couldn't hurt to try flipping it if its the asus flexbridge like mine:)

Well I got mine running...

I flipped the flexible sli bridge (asus) - it might have just not been seated properly...

3dmarks went up by about 65-70% on all benchmarks.

03 is now 30k+ (without the cpu o/c)
05 is now 14k+ (with the cpu o/c)
06 is now 9k+ (with the cpu o/c)

I did have to change the coolbits dword to 1a to get the sli features with card o/c.

Iwas able to run all benchmarks and play COD2 for 2hrs straight without a single hiccup. (100+fps avg never less than 82 fps in smokey battles!)

Thanks big sam!

Hi noobzed,

The Phantom 500W cannot handle 7900GTX SLI very well. It will shut off if you put heavy load on the video cards. I upgraded to a Seasonic S12-600W and all my problems went away.

Noobed;

The GTX cards require more power than the GT cards do. There is a listing of approved PSU's on Nvidias site and I dont think that 500w is going to do it under heavy loads.

I did a calc on my system - only 1hdd, 1rom drive, 2 sticks of mem, and 2 case fans. Peak usage could be as high as 471w according to this calculator. Given that I have a 550w psu I feel ok, but if I had GTX cards I would expect I need more power.

Now that being said - anyone have an idea why my 3dmark 01 is so low? I am getting about 38k - up only about 10% from my single card score. 03, 05, and -6 all went up by 70% but 01 didnt hardly move...

Another question for the group. What are "safe" core speeds for the 79XX gpu's? I have seen 65c under heavy load. This seems high for a cpu but I dont know if gpu's run hotter. Do I need to put a different cooler on my machine?

Here is a question for the group...

Running an Intel XBX motherboard with SLI (thx Big Sam!)

I was concerned about the temps on the GPU so I picked up a couple of Zalman GPU coolers. I put one on for comparison and was amazed!

At idle it only seemed to make a 5-6c difference, but at load, it ran almost 20c cooler! Thats AWESOME...

Here is the question - has anyone tried to install two of these on this board? How about any other single slot SLI board? It doesnt look like there is room and even if you can get it to fit, is there enough air to make the cooler effective?

Thanks all

I ran 3DMark05 with my current setup and I got only 11000 based on 1024x768 ... which to me sounds a bit low for my 7900gtx SLi setup. I am using the hacked drivers 85.96 and an Asus flex bridge. When I went into the Display properties to the Nvidia SLi settings, it doesn't give me the option to enable SLi (as if only one card is installed) and I only see temp settings for one card only. I also checked the Device Manager and saw only one 7900gtx card listed there. Also, I get display corruption after running 3DMark05.

I tried everything: swapped cards, flipped the SLi bridge, swapped the PCI-E power connector, swapped motherboards (same make and model of course), added more case fans, tried the latest non-hacked driver from Nvidia (91.31) ... I even went as far using my old DFI Lanparty NF4 SLi bridge!

I also noticed that 7900GTX HSF never "quiets down" when it is sitting on the second PCI-E slot (the black one). I swapped the cards and it is always the card sitting on the black slot. The one sitting on the orange slot always quiet down. Is this normal? I thought that it maybe the motherboard so I went to the store and purchased another P5W-DH and sure enough, it does it on the new board as well (which means that my old board was still good).

I am stumped! Nothing is overclocked and I am running WinXP Pro SP2. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Here are my benchmarks. They ran quite nice. Altho I have a hard time comparing since noone else I saw with similar specs had SLI running. But I got a full 1000+ marks over the second person (I was in first) for E6600s running in the 2300-2500 Range with 7600GTs.

While this comparison isnt fair since they are crippled graphically this is still a decent basline to go off of. FYI this is with a stock setup. No overclocking at this point. My system has been running a nice cool 29-35(under load) So I am seeing lots of headway for overclocking with aircooling at the moment. anyways these are my benchies.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=463705

If anyone happens upon someone with an Nvidia chipset running a 6600 stock speeds with 2 7600s it would be intresting to note this is what will reveal what chipset is actually better in raw numbers and just via discussion.

It is impossible. Old drivers don't support new devices with 2 GPU working through one PCI-E port.

Open nv4_disp.inf from the driver in which you want to get support 7900GS and add 2 lines which does not suffice in this file about 7900SG. You can copy these lines from nv4_disp.inf from new driver where there is 7900GS support.

For the board i presume? I don't think, Gigabyte will release a special Bios for this hand full of users with the 7900GX2, thats the problem..

Only idea i have, is to prepare the bios of the 7900GX2 more similar to the 7950GX2, maybe this will work?! The problem is, last time i was into nvidia and bios editing is long time ago (5900XT), hope i will not flash the card to death.. :p:

Big Sam:
7950GT is a single GPU card.

Excuse me, I have mixed it with GX2 :slapass:

I think that it will work with 85.96 if to edit nv4_disp.inf file.

Yes, all will work without problems. Once I tried 7800 on 955, but there is no difference...

I can edit it for you but only on Sunday.

And I not can give you 100% guarantee that it will work.

First of all it is necessary to test it.

I did edit the Inf file and try these drivers with my 7950gx2's on the 975 chipset, but it failed. It will be interesting to see if the 7950GT is ok.

Cheers,

Very strange question.
Certainly works.

I do not know it... also it does not depend from me.
I can only tell, that once, I had to write such profile and put it in the driver, after that all successfully worked.

I cannot write two times same things on one page. :)

As for SLi bridge..., SLi will work without it but productivity will be a little below.

When I open up a Maple 10 and begin to do computations, as I am working on it some of the text begins to "vanish" randomly. It is still there, I can highlight it and see it, but then other pieces of text will disappear as well. If I cut and paste the text from the editor window over to notepad, everything is there. The math computes just fine, but it is very difficult to work when numbers and information a few lines up keep vanishing from view. Even some text in the menu bars and pull down menus vanish in and out of view. I also seem to be getting the same issue with BlueJ, which I installed a few weeks after Maple.

I asked MapleSoft and they think it might have something to do with Java and my video drivers... anyone have any idea?

i had this problem with my CPU not being completely stable. It would pass prime95 and all that, but i would lose blocks of text. I ended up giving the CPU more voltage and the problem never happened again. it was weird

(this didnt just happen once, it happened all the time until i raised vcore)

Thanks all. I haven't done any 3D benching yet, but I seem to have both cards working at the same time and SLI enabled. Required me to do a manual install of the drivers instead of using the setup utility, and I also have to use the bottom card, but whatever, if it works it works. Thanks so much!

Hi!

I have been trying to setup my two msi 7600GT with Asus flexible SLI Bridge on my Intel 975bx board. No matter how i tried, i can only see one card. I cannot turn on the sli function in the advance properties setup. I took out and use the driver clean to clear off the drivers and then put in the card one by one and still the same. Can anyone here who has the intel 975bx board advice me on the setup procedure of ur sli setup. Btw, i run my e6300 at default mode. No overclocking.

Thanks

If you see in system only one card, your problem not in the driver.
You can install any other driver and be convinced of it.
I repeat once again, it is not necessary SLi-bridge for SLi work, SLi will work without it but only more slowly.

There is no difference how to install cards.
I always install both cards simultaneously.
To install cards one by one - more time will demand. :)
