Seems like Apple is continuing their switch to Intel. Think Secret has some news about the release of the Intel based Mac Pro which, as the name suggests, will replace the Power Mac. The specs will be similar to current Power Mac G5, including a single dual-core processor in the low- and mid-range systems, and a dual dual-core (quad core) system at the top end.

I'm still wondering which processors the Mac pro will get in the end. My guess is with Woodcrest, as according to some rumors there will be a dual dual core machine as well (same principle as with G5). Otherwise they would have to differentiate their machines too much.

For Merom it will be a while I think : september at the earliest (Mac World Paris). Maybe even Mac World SF in january.

We'll hopefully have ours at work by Monday :).

I've love to purchase my self one of these for a day to day computer, however the FB-DIMMs make the cost of adding more ram way to damned expensive.

Anyone know if regular PCIe videocards will fit in this thing?

I wouldn't mind with a Dual 3.0 Core Duo set with 16TB of RAM and 2TB of HDD Space along with the Quadro!

Money spent well there as well...

Oh yeah along with Dual 30" Cinema Monitors!

if I'm not mistaken, isnt apple a PC manufacturer with a customized OS?

don't get why everyone still calls them a macs, they're no longer on their own little IBM based island...

After waiting for custom config changes my unit is at the fedex sort facility and should be here tomorrow morning.

Rosetta bench numbers should be insane.

we received 2 mac pro dual woodcrest 3ghz at work...installed XP, runned 3dmark2001 and scored 22k with the cheapo 7300...not bad

A Mac was always a PC. In fact, the Apple I was the first PC.
