i've 1 IDE hdd (Maxtor 6Y160LO) and another SATA (SB 3160827AS). can i unite it in RAID :confused:?

No you cant. You can connect SATA with SATAII in RAID if SATAII HDD supports this feature.

You could use software-based RAID (Linux has this built in - probably there's a software based solution for Windows XP too though I expect it would cost a lot of money) but as others said, the built-in motherboard RAID usually won't work.

WinXP Pro has this built in!

ok, the others are wrong.
you can use raid, but only with certain chipsets, nvidia supports raid across ide/sata.

i know for sure nf3 does. as my board does. nf4 most likely will as well.
Just buy a IDE/SATA converter for 10$. problem solved.. :p:
