I recently won an online contest at crazyPC Team Romania (http://www.crazypc.ro/forum/showthread.php?t=3949) opened by myself, titled

"Best 2,7 Ghz AMD Opteron & AMD'64 race"
The rules are simple:
- Post your best SuperPI 1 MB score with ~~2,7 Ghz
- the frequency should only be set via BIOS (not ClockGen), meaning that only the following combinations of Multi x Bus will be considered valid:
225 x 12
246 x 11
270 x 10
300 x 9
338 x 8

At the end of the contest my final score, and World Record afaik is:
29,344"
The SuperPI 1MB "Pi calculation done!" screen should be visible, the CPU-Z CPU and CPU-Z Memory tabs should be visible, any other info would be welcome.
Athlon 64 FX users are welcome of course.

Why bother to do this? It's simple, I want to demmonstrate that there are verry verry verry few real harcore clocker/tweakers that know the benching secrets around, and lots of simple amateurs with money . :p:

your challenge is a little late.........i think everyone sold their AMDs in favour of something a lot better ;) hehehe

and what's with 1M challenge......how about a 32M SPI....that will give you a truer measure.........here is a thread that you should join and see how good you are ;)

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77530

great tweakers are people that do better with same hardware and no significant advantage on hardware but purely tweaking............i say this because there aren't too many 270MHz capable BH5 sticks so to set a challenge where you're hitting a sweet spot with your RAM isn't the fairest comp don't you think....

just had a look at your timings.....you've got some more improvement there....MAL/RP/TREF/9xmulti...should give you some more advantage.....also what sort of OS tweaks have you used

What's Amd64 ? ah yeah ... the cpu before yonah/conroe/merom ....
Pre-historic somewhat I'd say ...

And your best score/freq. in that era was...??

dinos22 come on, it's XtremeSystems we speak about... how can you say they aren't many BH-5 capable of 270 Mhz?
And yes, it is a little bit late.. but never too late for a WR
Don't make me do a poll to see how many Opterons/SD's are left on XtremeSystems

As said before - I sold my a64 rigs like 2-3 months ago ....
If you came with this challenge like 6 months ago perhaps It was a whole diff. ball game ...

Btw - Not trying to blow the air of ya - Nice score you got there ...

i'm saying from whatever ppl have left lying around dude........A64 is dead wood now man....move onto conroe for new challenges OR just join up existing challenges like the one i suggested when hardware was at peak.....heh :toast:

you can do a poll BUT all the good benchers have moved on.............so you can challenge inferior competitors if you like :p:

dinos, a vrey respected clocker said around here: "I run 100m sprints, not marathons ;)
You do not understand the meaning of this.. you don't win anything, you just prove you are a good tweaker or not. Not everywhere on the planet M.F.Earth Conroe is well available... neither on planet Xtremesystems.
If you dislike this thread.. ignore it..
If you continue flaming.. you just prove the purpose written by me in the first post.

Not to rain on your parade, but the only true way to check who is the best tweaker would be to have everyone run the same clocks (ie everyone run 12x225 @ 3-3-3-8 or something). If I could run 9x300 2-2-2-5 (1:1) with2x512, I dont think it would take a lot of tweaking to get that time (although I dont have 2x512 that can run 300 2-2-2-5). Just saying that would be the only true way to check who is the best tweaker. Nice score no doubt though.

thanks for the advice :stick:

you remind me of that Anandtech forum guy challanging Venice people to some restrictive challenge heheheh

2x512 that can run 300 2-2-2-5
Yep, even 2x256 ..
This should compensate even for the least experimented.. but how many kits capable of this are there, 2..3 maybe.
Anyway, we can move the proving grounds to 2770 Mhz if we have doubts.. this cannot be reached with 300Mhz BH-5 monsters :D

So did Charlie IIRC. I have sandiego, and some oldschool babies so i will try to beat you.

i think that it's a little late buddy for A64s. But this kind of competitions (aka Grand Prixes) are always great.
I have this pic since a few moths ago, just testing, that is because mems are in that frequency (OS is optimized) but without the heavy tweaks ;) :

Yep.. liitle late for A64. Too bad you don't have it anymore. You were one of the few I mentioned in the first post. I know that you were the only one with poor BH-5 memory under 27" at the 3 Ghz challenge. (26.89" afaik) :(
There, I had only 27.03 with same poor BH-5. But then I didn't know the heavy tweaks ;)

hmmm "World Record" @2.7GHZ...as if somebody would care. Not a bad time for only 2700MHZ but I don't think this gives a good XS competition.

Come on bro, tweaking is tweaking , sabinus' time is great for 2.7GHz. That is the essence of the GPs.

In fact, i remember the awesome time that Steven did with his FX 55/56 :fact: :
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1227994&postcount=60

At the moment with similar settings (well i don't have a weird chip like that :D ) i still can't match it , my best time is 0.3~0.4s slower. I never asked, but i have a theory about the divider

Anyway, for me tweaking is an art for Ocers :)

2652 Mhz :) piece of cake
29.985"

By the way... funflix's No.1 at performance/Mhz ratio DONE THAT better:

agreed to both points but as I've now X2 and no Pi RAM (sold my bh5 long long time ago) I can't take part here ;)

Eh.. no problem, there must be some ohter members still having their "dusty" old BH-5's somewhere to come to a good challenge. ;)
Or.. you can borrow a pair of 256 good piecies or buy them for 50 bucks.

As for your knowledge my friend, I think crazyPC Romania "spits glass at your a$$"
Try to beat this... man, we fight with the big boys, not with gals

One more dude that misses my point... sad :(

Maybe your reading skills lack a bit.. hmm, let me see, our team is... 4'th place here, is it a shame for a country with 300$ average salary?:

really no need to get like this

just join the thread i mentioned and see what you can do in 32M where real men compete...........tweak away boy :)

hey i saw your post in one such contest and it certainly kicked arse but i don't think much of 1M.......as it's all trickery with Maxmem values and couple of other tweaks......if you beat me at 32M stuff i'll STFU :p:

sub-24M SuperPI time is a good one...........try do that below 2960Mhz...... or sub 21M time under 3476MHz ;)....my RAM wasn't even maxed out there heh.....sub-23M time at 3100Mhz even.....that's the real :banana::banana::banana: for me :toast:

dinos22, ok, if that will make you happy, I will join your quest at 32 MB .. although I don't have enough patience for it.
'till then I think you would have to aggree this thread isn't yet outdated :)

you should easily get me if you max out your RAM.....i can guarantee you that you'll get sub 24m times with 11xdivider on RAM around 268-269 with a bit of patience

i had TCCD at 296Mhz for that run but BH5 will absolutely smash TCCD in superpi

269 2-2-2-5 1T is MUCH MUCH quicker than 296MHz 2.5-3-3-6 1T in 32M runs

I pretty much wanna play but alas, no 2x256Mb bh-5s =(

Only have a TCCD to keep myself happy =D

The second I must find when I return at home.
