Whats a good dvd burnin program.... I'm tryin to back up some of my movies that i just bought since i have a tendency to loose things easily. I've tried many programs, DVD shrink, Nero 6 ultra, DVD Decrypter, DVD43, AnyDVD, CloneDVD, DVD2one. None of them will let me burn these movies. Anybody have any suggestions?

DVD decrypter should work. I don't know if it's the best, but I've had success with the proggy.

DVDshrink and to shrink to 4.7GB, save as an ISO.

Burn the ISO with DVD Decrypter.

If you are burning onto dual layer dvds or your dvds are just single layer then go to town with just DVD Decrypter

Flawless.

Sometime anydvd needs to be running to decrypt the dvd as dvd decrypter doesn't have the latest algorithims.

Using Clone DVD with AnyDVD running in the background has never failed me...ever. If you are having trouble with this combo, you need to update your AnyDVD (that is if you actually have the license to it). AnyDVD is updated almost every week for new dvd encryption methods.

Another way of backing up a DVD would be:
1. Decrypt the DVD with DVDFab Decrypter (http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm). I like this over DVD Decrypter because the latter was discontinued, so better to stay up-to-date :)
2. Compressing with DVD-RB Free (http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=14) and output as an .ISO image. I find this latter better than DVDShrink when compressing about 25+%.
3. Get ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) to burn the .ISO image. ImgBurn is the updated version of the burning side of DVD Decrypter.

If you want a full-featured burning software (and that has a price tag), I suggest Prassi Ones (http://shop.tx-software.com/), it's quite good. It's capable of burning your DVD image or the video_ts

Edit
Alternative to Step 2. If you aren't going to compress the movie, then you're going to get stuck with a folder called video_ts (and maybe audio_ts, jacket, etc). Since ImgBurn can't burn folders, you'll have to use a little software called Folder2Iso (http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareFolder2Iso.html) to create an .ISO image from those folders. After you've created the .ISO image, go on to step 3.

Would this method enable me to play a DVD in my DVD player(standalone DVD player for TV)?

Yessir :)
DVDFab Decrypter or DVD Decrypter will remove all DVD protection (css, macrovision, etc) and also make it region free, allowing you to watch it on nearly any DVD player, anywhere

i use dvd decrypter, then dvd shrink to make dual layer movies fit on a single layer disc, as single layer discs are way cheaper then dual layer discs right now

My way: DVD Decrypter and Pinnacle Instant Copy Ver 8.0 or better.
Not as fast as DVD Shrink but a better finished product IMO
( for the new guys to this)
Keys to making good copys:
Get a decent DVD-RW burner. Pioneer, Plextor,etc..No name is no quality IMO
Set up a 30 gig partition JUST for your encoding.
Take your time, your not a manufacturer, your after quality.
While the encoding app is doing it's work, leave the machine alone.
Surf with that old P3 that you saved!:D
When all is done, empty and defrag the 30 gig partition.
Starting with a fresh space to work with can make a real difference in the finished product especially if your working with a minimal spec machine.
Good Luck!

I'm glad our tips will serve you well. By the way, http://www.videohelp.com/ is a website that gathers a multitude of multimedia software and guide/tutorials to various operations (i.e. AVI to DVD conversion) that I'm sure it will be a help to you in the future. Check it out! :)

No problem guy! If you get into any coasters or hit a concrete wall, just ring a question right here in this topic. I'm sure someone or myself will come by and help you out :)

I've added another part to my first post
