View Full Version : Recomend me a cpu block

Well I own a polarflo TT cpu block with 3barbs. Im thinking of changing. Reasoning is simple really, the block has anodised alu in it and it isnt a great performing block.

So im out on the hunt for a cheep alternative that performs well.
My main conditions are
No plex tops
No small bore blocks
No alu in them
No german stuff
and possibly cheep.

I know a very tedious list. But I think it can be done.
At the moment im eyeballing stuff on petras shop.

First contender.
http://www.petrastechshop.com/aqwhwaliedun.html
Reasoning: All copper with nicel plating, looks to be a very decent design, as well as it being cheep.

Second contender
http://www.petrastechshop.com/aqmpuncpuwab.html
Reasoning: No alu, very nice design and dosent breack my bank.

Now the second block is a bit iffy to me simply because it has a delrin top, and I dont know how that block will run.

The first block looks awsome but seems to be kinda old in the design.

If you have sugestions please make them, But if you dont witch one of these would you pick and why?

Thanks for looking.

Why not a Swiftech Storm?

No german stuff
:stick:

Anyhow, why does Delrin seem iffy ? It is ment to be a substitute for metal and (Bar the recent thread about the Storm top breaking.) is a very decent material.

Why not a Swiftech Storm?

Expensive. Dont have the cash for a 80dollar block when im thinking of buying a new pump as well.

Budget limitations

I dont have anything against germans (audi fan, Diesel power rules) but I just dont like alu in my loop and or small bore blocks.

Now on the derlin, yeh that recent thread about it cracking kinda scares me.

I'd go for the 2nd block as it's basically a DD TDX copy, also has more turbulance than the 1st. It is also a high pressure block so to get good cooling you'll need a big pump for it.

I'd go with option #2, the MP-1, assuming you can afford a pump that can handle it, something like a DDC+.

Dualist, you're chainsmoking crack to call that a "TDX copy". it is COMPLETELY unlike the TDX in pretty much every way except for that its a water block. if anything, its a nexxxos XP clone.
of the two, i'd go for the second; just be ready for a decently high pressure drop.

I have the swiftech branded 50Z pump. Im hoping to get a d5 or something.

IMO, there's no good reason to swap a 50z for a D5. they're very close in specs and the D5 has a far greater heat dump. the best improvement that could be done there would be to buy a 2nd 50z, where combined performance will match a 20RZ

i agree

switching to a D5 will raise temps most likely...

btw: www.dtekcustoms.com the MP-05 Pro is only $40 and will beat both of the blocks u listed.

Yeah, no reason to get a D5 if you already have a 50Z. Hell, spent a little bit of money and get a 13.8V PSU, and just overvolt the 50Z, putting it at DDC+ levels. Or shell out even more for a DDC+ and a Radiical or similiar top.

I find the 50z noisy. But its pushing 3L per min roughly through two water blocks and a heatercore. Ill have to remount the pump to get rid of the noise. I already insulated it but still not completly quiet.

In any case the mp-05 pro is delrin toped?

I thank you for your link btw. Thanks for the recomandation.

yes, but delrin is known as the best alternative to copper or brass.

it weighs less, and is very strong (minus the fubar'd storm defect)

one storm does not prove a rule... indeed ,probably just as many copper or alumi topped blocks have done the same. theres a reason every new good block has a delrin top.

I have the mp-05 with derlin top, it's a very nice block. No hint of cracking or anything.

same here... and my G4 and G5 both have delrin plates... Delrin is the best material for WB's... lightweight and strong.

There is nothing wrong with a delrin block :)

If cathar uses Delrin, then it rocks.

You can find the MP-05 at a good price ($55) here: Clicky (http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AQX-MP05-PRO-DTN01&Category_Code=AMD-WB)

At petra they only have the limited editions which are $65 and $75, and for that price you might as well get the Storm.

Thats the one im hoping to get.

Im also wondering if I should get the acelerator nozle set with it?

Im thinking about using the no3 nozle with the jet style head.

ReD.SkY

Sounds good. Im shure I wont be dispointed. Pin and jet design is actualy pretty dam good. Ive had designs for later jet design blocks in the past. Glad to see they perform well.
