View Full Version : v1200b Plus + Swiftech MCR-220 in bottom = cut holes?

I have the case and radiator listed in the topic, and I planned to remove the harddrive cages to mount the radiator down there. The fans would be pushing air down, while sucking from the front intake. My problem is that the bottom of the case has holes for ventilation, but the middle is a solid strip maybe 2 inches wide running down the length of the case (sorry for the bad description, but some of you v series owners know what I mean).

Does this mean I should cut holes for exhaust or should the holes be enough.

ALSO: Should I configure it differently, as in the radiator fans sucking from the bottom and the front fan be switch to blow the air out?

Thanks for the help in advance,

Matt

EDIT: Ok I'm thinking about just cutting the top, will this hold my rad? http://sharkacomputers.com/aqcoairamopl2.html I like it's looks, and could get a 3x120 later with (if compatible in the first place) Let me know, also I would love a cutting template if anyone has something like that?

why not have radiator on top of the case instead at the bottom and get rid all the HDD racks?

The top requires definite cutting, and to be honest I don't want to cut this case. Cutting the bottom is a semi different thing.

Haha I asked the same exact question about 3 weeks ago. LOL.

I have the exact same problem as you with the exact same case. I also first thought of mounting it there, but those little holes just dont provide enough venting.

Now I didnt want a radbox as it wouldnt work out for me.

2 choices I had, Get one of these two mounts, http://www.voyeurmods.com/index.php?action=category&id=2&subid=350

And either mount it on top or mount it in my drive bay horizontally.

In the end I choice niether and just sacrificed my 5.25'' bays.

Since it is a 120.2 Rad like mine it will fit in the drive bays. To secure it, i used some good ol zip ties.
And for ventilation, Heres what I did, I got one scythe kama bay from newegg
and 2 perforated lian li bezels from coolerguys ( you can just buy 5, but I already had the kama bay). Install the kama bay and perforated lian li bezels and there you go.

Of course this will require for you to get a external housing for your dvd/cd drive as theres no other place to put it...

Hah, it's funny you had the same problem, unfortunately that option seems a bit pricy to me after I've spent so much already :\. I think I'm going to stick with it and make the bottom mount work somehow, I just need some friendly advice :D

Edit: I should add that the hard drives (2) are going to take up the last 5.25 spots along with an optical drive and a faceplate for the audigy 2 zs platinum.

I know what a top mount looks like ;), we're thinking bottom mounting here.

Hm well I think the bottom mount should work ok if you do do some holes. But if you cant then I still think it might work if you find a way to seal the area around the rad so the air goes down into the holes...but I dont think theres enough breathing room for the fans to suck in air from those holes unless, of course you make some holes.

What about the other fan configuration i mentioned in my OP? would that work at all? As it wouldn't really be sucking the hot air straight into the rig (the section is divided off). What do you think?

That is a very slick looking case, nicely done.

What coolant? The Audi stuff?

SDKevin..do you have a dual loop?

How did you cut the case...large square or 120mm holes

Sorry about the OT, but: How long has that loop run? All copper components? Any exposure to sunlight or high ambient temps? No algae I assume? What blue dye did you use?

I'd like to replicate that look for my upcoming build. :) :toast:

sorry! well it aint fun with someone whos afraid to cut a little in theyre case! :P

edit: if you do put it in the bottom i think you should make it suck air into the case and have the front fan blowing out, together with the fan in the psu blowing air out in the back...

I'm asking for simple advice here people.... I said I'd PREFER not to cut the case. Add that to the fact that I've already purchased the parts anticipating the bottom mount. I guess all that I would need is a fan grill for the top mount? Added to that it'd be easier to add a 3x120 rad later. Someone answer the original question please, but I'd like to learn more about how I would go about cutting the top as well... Just to please you persistants...

just want to let you know that AC Grills are not compatible with ThermoChill Radiators

norse
06-29-2006, 12:21 PM
I don't have thermochill...

Have Swiftech MCR-220 and figured if I upgrade my rad, I won't mind paying a little more later for a new grill. Thanks though :D

But the holes would be in a different place ....

Great point :D Guess I'll stick with rads that have that hole configuration and get the bigger AC grill later. I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon anyways.
