Is it worth running climate prediction on a slow celeron? The time to completion on the current work unit is around 75 days. I have it at 33% on my 165, but thought I would try it out on the celeron too.

I don't think it could hurt. All points add up.
Put it on a machine that you can just let chug along, and it will trickle in points.

Do you get points throughout the work unit, or only at the end?

Through out, because the work units are so big.

Is this one of the projects that gives points based on hours done rather than on processing power? I may set a p3 on to this if so.

I havent been able to work out so far if its hours done, or percentage of the work unit done. I believe percentage of the work unit (227 points per 1% i think...) else the speed of the pc wouldnt matter. fancy trying it for us mel?

Wow. A boinc project where the benchmarks don't mean anything. Now if rosetta would figure out a way to do this...

I'll give it a blast on one rig see how it is, but it says one wu for this a64 is 1145 hours  1% will take 11hours and at 227 per one percent means it will only get 454 ppd which seems a bit tight considering this pulls a rac of about 700 in rosetta  o well at least this project helps a good cause. :toast:
hmm have been running this and after about 0.01% done i got this message in the messages and the wu reset and stopped :(.

You might read through the CP forum. CP is very different from other Boinc projects.
I don't know if using the Optimized Boinc version makes a difference in whether it errors out, but I know in it's crediting system, opti does not matter.
It's seeming to me that running it on optimized makes it error out? Maybe some one else can experiment on it?
I had it on an optimized rig and it errored. I installed on a rig running the vanilla Boinc version and it's humming along.
Since Einstein also doesn't like optimized Boinc, I set it up to share the same tower with CPDN. So far, so good.

ok im now running it on the un-optimized 5.4.9. It now says it will take 2183 hours :p: i'll leave it run see if it errors.

hmmm my CPDN runs on an optimised client fine.. might be down to luck i guess!

mine hasn't errored out yet after 22mins so i guess optimized clients can make it error. However i'm not waiting an entire day to do 1%. I think i need to search for a new short wu project. I'm need quick stats fixes :p:
