i am planning to get another opteron to play with, using water cooling. so which stepping is the best ?

ccbwe 0551 wpmw
ccbbe 0610 dpmw
170
ccbwe 0551wpmw
might be using phase so pls advise accordingly.

0610 without a doubt, 0551 steppings are 'usually' not very good at all.

0551 isn't worth the risk of a crappy chip, 0610 is better.

0551s are known as duds almost as well as 0550 is known as a good stepping

There are some 0551's that clock reasonably well (2.8) but on average they are not up with the best.

From what i hear the 0610s are the best, I have an Opteron 170 0546 XPMW works great (1.41Vs @ 2.7Ghz).

I believe the ones coming from Monarch right now are CCBBE's and they work very well for OC. You can get a "better" stepping from Tankguys but at a premium.

CCB1E 0606 VPMW (tray)
CCB1E 0609 xxxx (can't remember stepping code offhand, but it's a 165)
CCBBE 0617 FPMWs (a whole lotta them)

buy the CCBBE 0617 FPMW i have hit 2.8 on stock voltage &
360x9 on 1.475 + 113% overvolt
p.s i heard one rumor that this actually is a 185chip :D
but that's just a rumor :P

If you are looking for a good chip, then i'd get it either used from a member with proven results, or go to Dave. I know a lot of people that are very happy with their chips they got from him.

ccbbe 0610 dpmw is definitely best of those and that stepping is among the very best ones especially for air or cheap/decent WC. I've seen numerous 3GHz ~1.5v stable results of that stepping (aircooling).
And I'd stay away from any CCBWE steppings really but that's me, they seem to be either very bad or decent/good in a few cases. CCBBEs are most attractive to me and CCB1E can be very good too depending on week.
