Will the conroe Core 2 Duo Extreme Edition be worth its large price tag when compared to its lesser counterparts? With it going to be twice as much as the E6700 will there be that big of a performance difference? By the time conroe is released I'll be able to afford the X6800 Extreme Ed easily but from the benchies i've seen and with gaming at high resolutions it seems to me not worth it.. From what I've seen I might as well go with the 6700, and well then I might as well go with the 6600. So should i pay the price and go for the 6800 as my conroe of choice or not?

IMO it is entirely dependent on what cooling you are going to use. Obviously X6800 on stock cooling would be a :banana::banana::banana:ty idea, same with 6600 on a high end single stage.

The way i see it, 6600 for air/water, 6700 for good water and single stage, X6800 for benchmarking, record breaking, and Xtreme cooling.

Yes it'll be under phase which does -45C loaded @200w.. Will i see that big of a boost with higher clock speeds? Sorry but its been a while since ive had a decent chip to play around with and from my p4 experience(i skipped the whole s939 phase:slap: ) the higher clock speeds didn't do much for gaming benchmarking etc. It would be nice to see some ultra high scores in 3d markXX and so on reaching close to what some of the pros here can achieve. But would a 6700 under phase pretty much match the 6800 under phase?

I don't think a X6800 would clock that much farther than the 6700 but Intel's speed binning seems much more exact than AMD's so i'm guessing it will be enough to justify the price to some people.

Personally i still think 6700 is the better choice in your case, 10x450 gives you a max of about 4.5 Ghz ;).

Alright thanks for the input, looks to me like it'll be the 6700 unless there's something im missing with the 6800. A 4.5ghz conroe sounds pretty sweet to me! thanks again,
