74gb LaCie d2 - Raptor inside? Removable?

These arent new products so im sure that has been covered ages ago but im just curious. Do these (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=245145&source=froogle) just contain normal Raptors (albeit old 8mb ones)?

If so, can they be removed easily enough and why are these things cheaper than bare drives?

hmmm can't say I know reagarding that particular HDD, but I had a 80GB WD external that after I cracked the case was just a internal hdd with a USB/DC adapter, now I use the adapter for all size external drives. Just swap them out.

Exactly, i cant see how this is much else but a 74gb raptor at a lower cost than normal with a free external case.

What other 74gb 10krpm drive could it be? I think i remember a raptor knockoff once which was essentially the same thing.

Well, im tempted but then if im blowing money on a raptor (which im considering against my common sense) then id probably rather pay the extra for the new 16mb 74gb raptor.

Is this product availabel/cheap in the US too?

i cant think of any other sata 10000rpm drives. only other 10k drives i know of are on scsi or higher.

Well i have my eye on a raptor on ebay, if that falls through ill give this a go.

Interesting...the one doubt i'd have is that the tech specs list a 6ms access time, and the raptor access time 4.5ms isn't it?

I'm definitely tempted...it's still gonna be a decent drive even if it's not a raptor right?
