Ridiculous Film in Res...Won't come out

When I set up my loop, I used straight distilled. Within a month, the tubes were coated with a white film making them nearly opaque. I ripped apart the loop and put in new tubing, but the res, well, what is this film and why won't it come off? The same thing happened to my old res, so I'm now testing out cleaning solutions on that in case they damage the plastic.

So far I've tried and failed with:

vinegar
ammonia
ajax
baking soda


What the hell is it and how do I get rid of it? It's SO...........ANNOYING :mad: The only metals in the loop are Silver and Copper, and they should not react.....

Did you clean out your radiator very well? You didn't mention that, so i thought i'd throw that out there. Many people forget to clean out their RAD, and it'll eventually stain your tubing and stuff.

Join the club! Mine looked like very thinly sliced wax things. I just bought a new rad, going to sell it and let them deal with it LOL.

Is your rad plastic, or acrylic? Depending on the material, your choices in solvents could be expanded. I know using alcohol in acrylic/certain plastic rads is bad news.

How 'clean' does it have to be? I didnt exactly follow the guide on this forum.
My method:
Run some distilled through the rad
Fill it half way with distilled. Shake the rad.
Run some distilled through the rad
Fill it half way with distilled. Shake the rad.
Run some distilled through the rad
Fill it half way with distilled. Shake the rad.
Fill it half way with vinegar. Shake the rad.
Fill it half way with vinegar. Shake the rad.
Completly fill the rad with vinegar and let sit for 12-24hrs
Repeat the bolded
Run some distilled through the rad
Fill it half way with distilled. Shake the rad.
Run some distilled through the rad
Fill it half way with distilled. Shake the rad.
Run some distilled through the rad

Empty the rad before proceeding to the next line.

scrubbing bubbles worked AMAZING

Not only does my res look literally better than new, it cleaned out the tubing to be crystal clear. Just sprayed about .5in layer of it on the bottom of res, put a few ounces of water in, and shook the res for about a minute straight. It literally looks perfect now, even got rid of the waterline stain.

Flushed the res with water and then distilled then re-installed in loop and it looks beautiful.

Just to see how powerful it really is, I tried it on 3 year old tubing that had been stained when I was a noob and used an entire bottle of dye in the loop....made it look like brand new. This stuff is serious, doesn't harm plastic, and is great for places where you can't reach yourself because of the "scrubbing action" of it.

Scrubbing bubbles are great stuff. They lift just about ANYTHING.
Hell...we use them in the lab when radioactive stuff spills to lift it out of the counter surface. A few scrubbings with that, and the tabletop is cleaner than ever, with no radioactivity to boot!

To whoever suggested that, thanks...I wasn't sure if the stuff was W/C loop safe. I've found my poison of choice for cleaning now...

I had the white film as well......after refilling the loop and changing all my tubing 6 months later the film never came back

which supports it being crap form the rad (that I never cleaned out)
