2 or 4 cores combined into 1 independent core? It's regreat that we are see 2 and 4 different cores coming to market but is that really efficient? Shouldn't we expect 2 or 4 cores to combined into 1 solid core working as one, recognized as 1 core?

You are speaking of Reverse Hyperthreading. A feature I doubt we will see from INTEL for a long time.

Well it sounds more like taking the die space for dual or multi core CPU and taking all the resources into one core, e.g. a single core with double the decoders, double the cache, double the execution resources, etc.

Well I won't be holding my breathe ;)

I see no reason why you shouldn't go with multi-cores if you're making a new build. The cores that are out and are coming out are MORE than powerful enough for all of your single core apps, with extra cores in the background.
